View Full Version : What have you created lately?

I've been sick and laid up on the couch for a couple days, so I finally got around to editing the sampler from the big martial arts trickster gathering I hosted back in August.

I think it turned out pretty good:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj-1NsObsF4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj-1NsObsF4

It's 6 minutes long, so if you don't have any interest in martial arts, gymnastics or men doing incredibly difficult things with their bodies... it may be a waste of your time.
You have been warned.

So, now it's your turn... What have YOU created lately?

Definitely not a waste of time for me. :)

I liked your presentation. Not too many effects and you didn't go real overboard with any of them. I wasn't too fond of the second song at first, but it turned into something fitting after a while.

I'm more into seeing the function of martial arts, usually, but things like this are great when you wanna see people do stuff with their bodies you really thought were a little off limits.

As for what I've created lately:

I've been coding on a library for sockets (connection stuff) on a *nix platform. At first it was supposed to be a port of socket stuff I had done a few years ago for Windows, but I decided it could do well with an overhaul so I rewrote it from scratch.

I'm determined to keep it lightweight, not very general at all (for example, I have no plans to include UDP sockets; I'll stay at TCP sockets), just something I can use for TCP data transfer that doesn't fail me in doing the very regular stuff. "5 minute applications" would be HTTP downloaders, the communication part of webcrawlers, etc.

Doing the socket lib kind of got me on track with coding again, as I had been in a period of just not knowing what to do for a good while, and getting back to something that is a little familiar, yet something that can be done better than last time is a great way to motivate yourself to code more.

well i've written some songs, some of which are just plain drug induced weirdness. some are okay though. i'm working on singing...

the only other thing i've created other than that is a movie poster for a silly idea I came up which was nothing more than a small bit of conversation amongst friends. the tag line was "Man goes in to woods. Tick gets on man. Tick becomes man!" and the picture beside the tag was of a huge tick wearing pants and holding a hockey stick, a cigarette, a gun, and scratching his ass with the fourth hand. it was ten minutes of fun.

if the tick bit dan and became a doppleganger of him, it would probably take him ten or eleven tries to get it just right :p

I wrote a the first part of a chapter today!

Angels and Animals

War.

The first one started before the world’s creation. In that ether before time - before existence needed ticks and tocks to define itself. God, they say (in the dark quiet times when he doesn’t seem to be listening) started it. “They” say it was God’s ideas of freedom and love that spurred the Separation, not Lucifer’s deviances or hatred. Just the new idea of choice.

It should be noted that angels are beings of dependences. They are, for the most part, tools tied to their purpose.

This is The Way of Things.

Or so it was for the longest time…

Until one angel declared the greatest of all sins:

Independence.

Chapter One

‘The Son of Man will send out his angels, and they will weed out of his kingdom everything that causes sin and all who do evil.”

The Book of Mathew
Chapter 13, Verse 41

There is a difference between the way things appear and the way things are.

The world, for example, appears to be round and solid all the way through. It is – in fact – flat. Humanity just doesn’t know it yet. Typical humans - like Charlie Horner - the man sitting on a cold concrete curb, have no idea where their butts are actually sitting on the Cosmic Totem Pole.

Humans like to think that that their little sliver of reality is the only one that exists. It appears to be only the one that matters to them too, but human’s are biased, this being the only plane of existence that they occupy (for the most part). It is but one of seven plans – levels – of existence. There are three below, and three above.

Charlie doesn’t know any of this. He doesn’t care about the Throne just three thin levels above, or the Abyss just three levels below. All he cares about is the cold night air, his stolen car, and how long he’s going to be waiting for his girlfriend to come pick him up.

Raziel knows all to well how close humanity is chaos, how far away they are from perfection, him being the last remaining angel on earth.

For roughly five thousand years he’s been waiting for this night. There had been many of his legion. Thousands upon thousands sent out from the Throne. Each one ready and willing to bring God’s vengeance to earth. Each one a soldier and Guardian of Heaven and Earth. He is the last one remaining. The only one who still has the fire of conviction left burning in his chest. Five thousand years he has been watching and waiting for his purpose to be fulfilled.

He smiles at the sword in his hand the wind making the liquid fire that pulses up the and down the blade sweep behind him. His white wings out to either side hold him in the air and the full moon’s glow makes them sparkle in the night like a thousand stars. He had been given three gifts by the Lord where the other angels had only been given two.

The Father had given him his mission personally. The commanding words once spoken ignited in him the fire that has kept him fighting all these years. The Carpenter had been there smiling, had given him his sword with a kiss. It was the last gift that made him different, made him special. The Divine had then placed within him the Seal with a shattering blow that had nearly ripped him apart. There were only Seven Seals. Just Seven Seals that kept Hell from waging the War here on Earth. Each one a capsule of God’s power and authority. Each different. Where the other six were the angel did not know.

He hungers for home, and can’t but help but feel a pang of yearning remembering the Cherubs and lower angels trumpeting the Legion’s decent. He had only looked back once. He had watched with sadness as the Silver City disappeared into the clouds. This world was not home. It was as alien to him now as it had been when he had first felt the oddness of gravity’s hold. This was not his world, not his place. He watched the Sons and Daughters grow in faith and in mind, yet he still could not understand them. They could not see him unless he wanted to be seen, and had stayed hidden.

In those long years he had faced down demons, had lead the Legion against the Horde. He had watched silently as one by one each Guardian returned home as their purpose was fulfilled. Each time forcing the jealously that was growing within him deep down.

But tonight he would be welcomed home. Tonight his purpose would be fulfilled. He licked his white lips and smiled. Like a circling vulture the angel waited high above the human for his time to strike.

He whispered into night with a snarl, “Vengeance is the Lord’s.”

I started a website/blog with my buddy about tech projects and hacks. :) We calls it H4xful (http://www.h4xful.net/). :)

Once I finally stop being lazy I'm gonna start writing some web apps for my Blackberry, and eventually I want to teach myself Java and write native apps for it.

A more professional (and public) display of my fiction, that I used to only put somewhere else and didn't really let any of my pals know about it. Now what I put up on there goes on my facebook, and they can read if they want, and tell me how dumbdumb I am. It is the only thing I have created recently, aside from some of said fiction.

Um, I made that Steve Montage for 52, I made a montage of my work on a podcast I used to do, and sometime over the next few weeks I'll be finishing a DVD mastering of my dad's old band tape. It's quite disturbing. Anybody know any good tuts for Encore?

:D I just got finished having a long discussion with some dudes wearing hater pants who were adamant that I shouldn't refer to the activities as "Martial Arts Tricks" because you would never use a trick in a fight and therefore it isn't "martial"... I'm glad you could appreciate it for what it is. I should mention that pretty much everyone in the video IS an accomplished martial artist and this sort of training is done as an extension and addition to their practical martial arts training.

You didn't like the "Harder Better Faster Stronger" song at first? Most of the people I showed it to didn't like the rap... hmmm... I have eclectic tastes I guess.

When I wrote that I thought the "second song" was the rap song. Yes, the rap was what I found a little "hmm" at first, but like I said, I thought it got better.

on my mac, i used PulpMotion, iMovieHD, and iDVD to make a wedding video and DVD's for my friend's wedding. it's totally a hobby, and it felt great when they played it at the wedding and people loved it. even their DJ came over and was like "do you do this professionally?"

i have also been working on kind of a secret project for my girlfriend. she doesn't read these forums, so it's probably safe to talk about it.

i'm using mii's and other photos of her to recreate movie posters (cruedly, i guess) in photoshop. i've hit a bit of a wall because i'm running low on movie titles i could work the word "sue" into :) i do have a bunch done/in progress and i think she'll like it when it's done.

I created my TRS montage, but that was almost a month ago... I do have ideas for 3 more, though; it's just that I've been teaching a four-week-long class that's kind of been consuming my time outside of my "real" job. I'm also going to make my own TRS t-shirt á la what popSiren did in ep#4, so we'll see how that turns out.

puddlefish, I really like your choice of color in the first set, it seems a little off at first, since it is not all dreary and dark, but it brings a new perspective. anyway, the artwork is amazing.

I have not had much time/skill to do anything fun and creative, my right brain doesn't seem to work most of the time. If I am not working on classwork or research, I usually end spending time on some code that I have been developing. However, I did build a small stand for my laptop the other day, just a trapezoid so I can angle my speakers towards me and match the heights of my monitors.

Keep it coming, I am looking forward.
