partly because i just love the open world racing.
but
the a major part of it is the criterion games crew.
i listen to their podcast, "crashFM" where they talk about how they're constantly working to make the game better, incorporate things people want, and add new dimensions to the gameplay.
yesterday they announced:
B patch - bugfixes
C patch - 70 new freeburn challenges; some extra multiplayer modes; new leaderboards for co-op; a Live Updates page with a whole calendar/event interface ripped right out of Mac OS X’s Dashboard; the Hunter Olympus vehicle; 1080i support on PS3, new support for SD players; bug-fix for Avril Lavigne content on PS3 shipping disc (i.e Custom Soundtrack support)
D patch – motorcycles and night racing (no traffic)
E patch – new islands added Paradise City
they also said they're toying with adding planes to the game.
in a game that's already HUGE with replay value, to have such transparency in the behind-the-scenes work and a commitment to adding value to the game....this is just awesome.

I've been waiting for this! I will continue to wait... June, you say? Bring it on.

heh, they even joked about that on their podcast.
they're going to have custom soundtracks as well, i think even before the in-game XMB.

I don't think in-game XMB is the way to handle custom soundtracks anyhow.. But that's just my opinion. Mostly I care about in-game messaging. In-game web browser would ROCK too, even if they limited it to a single tab at once. But I won't get my hopes up.
There are so many little things I'd fix about the PS3, even though on the whole it's great. Things like "how the hell do I skip quickly to the 65-minute mark of this 85-minute podcast?" and "do I really have to delete every one of these messages ONE at a time?" for example. But I digress.

This is AWESOME to hear. Also, you do know that you can go to messages recieved or sent and just hit "delete all" right? :D

What if I only want to delete all the messages that I received or sent to you, but not my other friends? How do I do that? Yeah, thought so!

Thank you SOOO much for posting this. Yeah, Burnout Paradise is like my go-to game destination for a "good time" now. :D The main thing thing I can't wait for is the custom soundtracks! Even though we don't have them yet, it's still a blast FLYING down the road with "Cities In Dust" blearing in the game. IMO that's the best song in the game. :D:D

I threw it in again the other night whilst I was testing the new TV (and its location)...still good fun, particularly with a Dualshock. My only issue was odd...I keep seeing things blocked off (driveways mostly, that have no reason to be open...although, I'd like to be able to ride the tracks all the way around) and thinking 'let me in'. I blame it on being used to GTA.
I still haven't gotten into multiplayer (though that'll change, now) so some of that stuff isn't as interesting to me, though the motorcycles and islands sound interesting.

I would love having the custom soundtracks integrated in through the XMB. I use the hell out of it on my 360. I don't have to worry so much about whether or not a particular game supports it and I can continue listening to a particular album or playlist between multiple games without having to start the playlist over again.
Burnout Paradise is such a blast. If only I could convince my friends to pick it up. Most of them have played to death one or more of the earlier games in the series, but they all have this as the game they might buy if they are particularly bored with their existing games, no other new games are out, and they happen to come into a small fortune.
