Business: Mac
Not Business: Also Mac
Play Games: PC

Playing games on a expensive computer is fun.
To get any thing else done, you need a mac.

As much RAM as you can cram into the DIMM slots. OSX loooooves having lots of memory and once you max out how much your computer can take, you find that nice barrier where you don't have to worry too much about paging http://revision3.com/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif That's about the biggest thing I'd recommend. I can recommend some relatively inexpensive recording gear if you like...

I work with my mac. I dont think anything is more impressive then a woman with a cute pink laptop that flips open the lid and loads up here presentation and such. Then when the boys snicker and go " phh, she cant run this program that we want her to, god woman dont know tech " she opens up VMware or boots to boot camp and turns and says ... what was that ?

Seriously though, i dont know why you want two of them... well ok i know why you WANT two of them, but maybe instead of 2 you can buy one really kick ass macbook pro, max it out and then put the money into something else, like HD back ups, a mac mini to use as not only a home media server but remote access server for when your traveling so you never have to worry about leaving data at home or a laptop dying on you or anything of that nature. I mean you could buy a plasma and a that mini and compute from the couch for the cost of a second laptop. Just saying.

But im really happy for whatever is going on for you, sounds good and im jealous to the core :p

well don't be jealous till i actually have them things are still potential but it looks very possible

thx i will think all that

you don't understand one reason for two

one is personal brand and i will pay for it and i can put personal stuff on it

the other is from the company because it is my company and the company will pay for it

i maintain my own identity

and i need mobility global mobility

how relative is relative

Well, the mixer I have can goes for roughly $200 and the mic in my possession can go for $89.99

For a simple, 4x4 recording box with the option for MIDI in/out I whole heartedly recommend the M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB (http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackPro-main.html). I can't say enough about how awesome this little USB box has been to me. Every guitar-line and vocal line that I've ever done has been done through this little box and is just fantastic. I'm pretty sure you have to install drivers on the Mac side of the deal but that's a minor hassle. Best part of it is, it's a pre-amp and it has Phantom Power for all your condenser mic needs. That link goes to the official site which lists it's cost at $250 US but easily you can find it for cheaper (http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopexd.asp?id=631). (EDIT: That's the VERY same website I used and it's now one year later and $25 cheaper :D) Oh yeah... and it's powered by the USB 2.0 port on your computer.

As for an inexpensive condenser mic I have a CAD GXL2200 (http://www.axemusic.com/product.asp?numRecordPosition=2&P_ID=452&PT_ID=164). The sound that comes through this is super clean. I barely had to touch the equalizers to boost the sound in the tests I've done. It comes with a shock mount which can help reduce noise from things like bumps to the stand (not much you can do for that...) but for walking around and those kind of things, the shock mount is great. and attaches to any standard mic stand. I love those guys over at AXE (I've met their Calgary staff and had the chance to yak about gear and such and they are really great and not only know the gear, but play it too) but I don't know if they ship to the States.

For a pop screen, I'm going all punk rock DIY and making my own. I'm taking a wire clothes-hanger and a pair of nylon leggings and making it by:
-forming the clothes hanger to shape
-stretching the cloth across it
-lots of hot glue and maybe some super glue... or I'll just epoxy it.

That's basically the extent of my set up.

Well... that and a Behringer X V-AMP and a Digitech Grunge Distortion pedal for guitar effects but those things are entirely dependent on your guitar needs.
