This goes for all of revision3's podcasts really, not just diggnation.

But will you guys be releasing in more formats, so that the podcast can be played on other media players than ipod, such as zune or one of the many from other companies like sony, toshiba, etc.

I seem to remember they used to be in alot of formats, maybe i am just missing something. But when i go to the episode pages the only download i see is for .mov

Look right under it. It says "View All Video Downloads", which includes WMV, which would work for the Zune.

lol, every player other than the ipod uses WMV. Diggnation has every popular format used on the net.

Hi,

More and more phones are supporting video playback. I know Nokia's smartphones do not support Quicktime or WMV, I don't know about other vendors. If the shows were available in MPEG4 format or H.264/AVC instead of Quicktime, I think they would be playable on iPods and phones. For reference I know GeekBrief.TV plays fine on my phone.

If interested here is a page that shows some of the capabilities of Nokia's phones.

They are H.264. And the small H.264 is for the Ipod.

I can confirm that the wmv files work on the zune. But they are encoded a little differently than what the zune actually can play, so the zune software converts it automatically.

Ahh, I just looked at all of the format settings for the wmv version. Its size is 340x240, the zune uses 320x240. That's why it has to convert. Maybe whoever encodes the videos could resize it?

that works for atleast Diggnation. But why are other shows, like geekdrome, only in h.264?!?

Thanks, a little further investigation on my part should have been done. I still question the use of "Quicktime" when listing the formats. Wouldn't MPEG-4 more appropriate. At least I assumed they were .mov files because they were labelled as Quicktime.

I tried to research on Wikipedia and although it is not black-n-white, there are these quotes.

"MP4 files with audio and video generally use the .mp4 and .m4v extensions, occasionally .mp4v." - These files are .m4v so I would call them MPEG-4.

"Video: MPEG-4 Part 10 (also known as H.264 and MPEG-4 AVC)" - Again since they are H.264, I would call them MPEG-4.

"A QuickTime file (*.mov) functions as a multimedia container file..." - Since they are not *.mov I would not refer to them as Quicktime.

BTW, the videos play very nicely on my phone.

I don't know if you have seen it but Zune just got a 3rd party program that supports podcasting. Simple, does the work and its 100% free.

Check the article on our site (and screenshots):
Zune Podcast Software (http://www.zune-online.com/news/zune/zune-podcast-unofficial-support.html).

Thats a got answer for those who just kept telling PodCasting is a major issue. Another company released it 5 days after Zune.

It seems after all it wasn't a big deal.

Geekdrome has always offered their video in Ipod video format.
