If you haven't done so, please go and have a read (or re-read) the Revision3 Forums - Rules of Conduct (http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=703).

I'd like to focus on Rule #2 - "The Tolerance Rule" ...
2. Creating comments about a person or group of people that is racist, threatening, insulting, abusive, etc is not allowed.

And its companion Rule #3 - "The Do Unto Others Rule" ...
3. Be kind to other members by showing respect to their opinions and feelings. Making false claims about a person or company is prohibited. The use of the Revision3 forums is a privilege, not a right. Having a negative attitude, being a snob, and flaming will not be tolerated anywhere.

Sit back ... think for a moment.

Would you walk into someone's house and immediately start criticising thier accent, hair, furniture, taste in music, religion, lifestyle, etc.?

There are ways of offering constructive criticism without it dropping into personal attacks. This is a new show. It has wrinkles to shake out. Go back and look at early Diggnation or TRS shows - the hosts there cringe about them as well.

Don't like the content? Then move on - this is not going to be a show for you.

Like the content, but don't like the presentation/format? Cool. Let your fingers do the talking, and say what you do and don't like, but don't just bitch about it - offer up how you might improve the show. Say what you liked and didn't like ... but don't make it personal. Otherwise ...

Ongoing violations of Rule 2 and Rule 3 will result in suspension of access rights to the forums. Continuing to violate Rule 2 and Rule 3 will result in total banning from the system.

Nothing wrong with criticism - just choose your words carefully so that Rev3 can learn from the feedback.

Alas, these forums are not the wild-west free-for-all that is digg.com.

No, but that's an absurd analogy. These forums are in place as a means to communicate. It should be no surprise that it isn't always 100% asskissing.

There are ways of offering constructive criticism without it dropping into personal attacks. This is a new show. It has wrinkles to shake out.

These two sentences don't fit very well together. First you are suggesting it's fine to criticize the show but to not get personal. The second sentece is a plea for patience and insinuation to criticize less.

Don't like the content? Then move on - this is not going to be a show for you.

Is this revision3's official line? Pretty sure they don't want their base "moving on." Maybe we have some constructive stuff to say about the content. Maybe, as the viewers, as the ones that result in advertisement revenue, it may be a tiny bit important to listen to us with regards to all constructive criticism, including criticism of content.

This is such a copout. Deal with it. As long as there are no personal attacks, insults, and vulgarities there shouldn't be much of a problem. Nor is there any rule about "excessive criticism" Those that work at revision3 are all adults and know the difference between valuable criticism and internet whining. Most are probably smart enough to put that stuff aside and cleverly ignore it. Don't be such a power tripping baby.

"Creating comments about a person or group of people that is racist, threatening, insulting, abusive, etc is not allowed."

So . . . what I need to do is just repeat someone else's?

As long as there are no personal attacks, insults, and vulgarities there shouldn't be much of a problem.Absolutely correct. Go back and re-read some of the comments being made when this thread was originally created - especially the personal attacks part. Those that work at revision3 are all adults and know the difference between valuable criticism and internet whining. Most are probably smart enough to put that stuff aside and cleverly ignore it.Unfortunately many of the forum member who feel it necessary to complain CAN'T tell the difference between CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and internet whining, and think that their whining is valuable criticism. The Rev3 staffers are adult enough to ignore it, but some people online feed off it Don't be such a power tripping baby.Should I just drop your entire post into the "internet whining" category?

Don't be such a power tripping baby.

This a great example of the kind personal attack that is prohibited by the forum rules of conduct. Thanks for the illustration.

The rules of conduct require members to be polite. There is nothing constructive that can be delivered in an impolite, disrespectful or inflammatory manner. An abusive tone is automatically non-constructive. Therefore, you can't excuse such a tone as "constructive criticism."
