hey guys i donno if its just me but i am experiancing bad speeds only on revision3 and its been happening for a couple weeks i usually download around a solid 3mbps for downloading diggnation or something like that any ideas to fix it

heres the speed i get here

and heres my speedtest score

inless the revision3 servers are getting pounded with users idk why it would be slow cause i know bitgravity is where they upload there videos i think

Wow at the speed test. You do know you can link to the test results, which would be less hassle than the screenshot, right?

I forgot, but is there any fix for the problem I'm reciving I hope I'm not the only one experiencing this issue

Speedtest is a pretty irrelevant test. It tests your cpu speed, not your isp speed. You results are clearly warped, there's no reason for that large a difference in up/down.

That, and, rev3 and digg are the slowest, worst, most faulty websites I know on the internets, and I visit other sites hourly, that have 7 times the users of digg or rev3. I love 'em here, but I wouldn't go more than a few hours without loading a blank page, or advertising only page, or ascii page, or just plain timeout loading a rev3 page. I kind of just think of it as a work in progress, here at rev3. The road ain't paved yet, so the giant potholes are pretty much expected.

So why is it an "Internet Speed Test" then?

Differences like that are normal. I have 250/40 kbs

While speedtest results are "irrelevant", they're irrelevant for much different reasons. Speed test does, in fact, test the speed of the link between two endpoints (your machine/home router and one of the various speedtest servers). Ideally it has little if anything to do with the speed of your cpu (even a 400mhz machine should be able to fill a 100Mbit pipe).

The problem with speedtest is in its singular (or finite) endpoint(s).
-Other servers on the internet are no as geographically close or well connected as the speedtest server nearest you
-ISPs participate in traffic shaping in ways you wouldn't dream
-Sometimes routing to one server is drastically less efficient than others

As for the disparity in Up/Down throughput, that is perfectly normal on asynchronous links (that's why they're called asynchronous). Most consumers could care less about their upload speed, so ISPs frontload the download throughput capability on most links.

ALL THAT ASIDE, please send the output of a traceroute from the machine in question to bitcast-a.bitgravity.com. I see you were using windows, just do Start->Command prompt (or run... i forget which). Type cmd.exe [enter]. In the new window run:
tracert bitcast-a.bitgravity.com

and send the output to tech@revision3

I would imagine this is just poor routing (as it tends to be)

*edit*
also, how much are you paying for a freaking line that can hit 20mbit in the "real world"?

Evidently you've never heard of the concept of asyncronis. :p Speeds that different are very common here in the states. Your processor has absolutely NOTHING to do with how fast your internet pipe is. The fact that you said it does clearly indicates your lack of knowledge of how computing works. :)

dmz00, I'm glad to see your throughput has increased. If you continue to have issues, feel free to ping me and we'll see what we can do.

Pay special attention to the small print. The test from that site doesn't test you isp speed it tests your cou's relationship with your isp. The results don't really have a singel fucking thing to do with your isp, this could be discovered by trying the test on different computers and different isps, or, just by paying attention to all the people that already know the bleeding obvious,.. one of them being, the pp who run the test.

Speeds that different are very common here in the states.

Wow, that's a great point, brilliant sentence, it had never occurred to me.

Was discussed in the other thread. http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=17391

bitcast-a.bitgravity.com is going very very slow. Try downloading from bitcast-b.bitgravity.com or bitcast-c.bitgravity.com
