Sarah shows you how to master new skills on the fly, Dr. Kiki explains the physics behind hula hooping, Moujan melts and old toothbrush into a fabulous toothbrush holder and Heather explains the merits of something under-appreciated that lives in the sea.

Another great episode

Pros
*I'm loving the word origins
*Best Remix segment so far by far (see the "So when's Moujan getting her own show?" thread in the Social Brew section)
*The fringe bordered a little bit on Dr. Kiki's territory (a good thing IMO)
*Loved the outtakes

Cons
*The Gist and On The Prowl seemed really short
*The multiple Dr. Kiki segments are a bit hard to follow. If she were doing an experiment during the course of the show, then it would makes sense, but breaking up what is essentially a lecture just doesn't work.
*Neither birds nor reptiles are mammals.

And one suggestion/question: Would it be possible for Moujan to do a time elapsed/somewhat preprepared version of the project during remix? (like they do on cooking shows) I think it would be better than just having the stills.

Maybe a heat gun would be better than boiling water because it will let the plastic
remain in a molten state as you work it. Then you can make more curls and tighter
curls.

Maybe Dr Kiki could talk about centripetal and centrifugal force using this comic
http://xkcd.com/123/

Moujan could play the role of the arch villain.

Watching this segment made me think of some hot pot pads I saw at my mother's house awhile ago.. which apparently had some potpourri bundled in them as well as an insulator, so when you put a pot on it, it not only took the heat, but gave off a nice smell as well.

OK, hope this will be taken for constructive feedback and not a rant as it is not. It is only my opinion and therefor would be taken as is.

Many pros for the show:
-Dr kiki rules the show, I am even a little suspicious that her segment is divided throughout pop syren so the public stays tuned for the whole thing.
-DIYs are cool and creative, pushing people to recycle in any way , shape or form is always a great idea.
-Heather is great in the fringe and covers a variety of topics
So overall good

Cons:
-I understand that the show is hip and cool and all that. However, calling your audience "knuckleheads" is an insult any way you look at it. Urban dictionary, look it up.
- I know that the show targets mostly women and therefor being a guy, I might be missing the point but after following Sarah and Jessica throughout most of their careers, from tech tv on, I know they are intelligent women. Why why why do they have to act dumb. Again it is a let down for me as I know them to be smarter than what is displayed.

That is it.
Also , I do not want you to believe that I am hiding behind a forum to complaint so you can reach me on Da twit at lionelmarye.

Please take this as a cry to want to love the show
Thank you

"*Neither birds nor reptiles are mammals."

Perhaps it's just nerdy me, but I found that just cringe-inducing -- a really egregious error. Blech.

So what is that "new show" they were talking about at the end? Was it Social Brew or something else?

I have brought it up before, watching the girls babble about stuff they are obviously clueless about is painful to watch, leave the "science" to doctor kiki.

Does Ms. Corbin know that birds aren't mammals?Did you listen to what she said?

She said (paraphrasing) that she was surprised about the connection to birds because the TRex had multirooted teeth like mammals, and not like reptiles.

Cool show.. this is the second episode I watch. After watching the first one I did not really think I would be into the show, but Im glad a gave it another watch...

By the way.. Geek moment alert!!... Sarah, The ring that Bilbo Baggins got his sweaty little hands on is called the "Ring of Power", not "Ring of Doom". lol... However, I must still give you props for the enthusiastic way you said "DOOOOOOOM" :)

Rock On!

Also: I hope Dr Kiki's segment doesn't keep getting split up like it has, and that the last two weeks have been an anomaly

She said (paraphrasing) that she was surprised about the connection to birds because the TRex had multirooted teeth like mammals, and not like reptiles.

Ah, I can see how this could be misinterpreted, and perhaps I did not pay close enough attention (apologies to Ms. Corbin, in that case). This sounds like she thinks birds are reptiles. That, or she assumed that TRex was more closely related to mammals than reptiles (but birds are not classified as reptiles).

Mammals are actually older than birds, and evolved well before the existence of T. rex.

I'll watch it again.

edit: She said close to "...from their...make up, I would have thought reptilian way more than mammalian [in the context of the revelation that T. Rex is more closely related to *birds* than crocs]...but from my research I found out that they have multiple roots for their teeth and they chew their food, and that is a very mammalian thing...reptilians, reptiles, even if they have teeth, they only have one root and they swallow their food whole..."

That sure sounds like she's conflating birds and mammals, that, or the whole thing was a complete non sequitur. So yeah, I listened to what she said. Did you? I guess the question is whether they should be all "scientifical" in the absence of knowing things about stuff. Corbin didn't "school" anyone.

Great show popSirens.

I want to make an observation. It might be a mistake to assume that, just because Del Toro is known for dark themes, that "The Hobbit" will be darker. One of the great differences in "The Hobbit" as opposed to the "Lord of the Rings" is the lack of dark themes. Jackson and Del Toro are great custodians of the printed work. I think they'll respect the flavor of the original story and not take too much poetic license.

Everything will have to clear Jackson. "The Hobbit" will make more money than any film in history before it, and the second film will come close to that. masherscf is correct. This isn't going to be a "Pan's Labyrinth" take on "The Hobbit," but I don't think that will be by virtue of Del Toro coming to some revelation about what the film should be... Cuaron would have been better, or at least gotten along with Jackson better.

And you are trolling.

I didn't intend to (be a) troll. I'm just sensitive to "spin," or so I would like to think.

I've a genuine interest in the advancement of science, and rational thought. And I feel that the silliness of the presentation often doesn't do the science justice.
