I have a dell PC running XP but in the past have had pages load slow but it was Comcast.

If you're running IE - there's your problem.

If your running firefox clear memory cache.
1. Click Tools and select Options.
2. Click the Advanced icon and click the Network tab.
3. Click Clear Now under the Cache section.
4. Click Ok.
5. Exit and relaunch the browser.

What did you do before the page started to run slow?

The whole rev3 site has been running EXTREMELY slow lately.

Since the initial pages load fast that means that those pages are cached and the other pages are processing slow.

Check your speed test here: http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

Then post what you get, you can also try doing a trace route to see if its your ISP that is hopping you to a slow spot, you can see that by going to Start -> Run -> "cmd" without the quotes and hit enter. Then type in "tracert www.revision3.com" and hit enter. See if one of the hops takes a long time to go.

Also use CCleaner as stated, you can download a trial version of spysweeper and install it, see if it picks up any spyware on your system. Also defrag your harddrive as that will help also.

Go to start-run-> "msconfig" and uncheck the items that you see are not necessary for loading up under "startup programs", you can remove any dell application, quicktime, etc for help with the programs running.

Since skyz is asking this question here, I wouldn't advise her going into msconfig.

Sure, un-checking quicktime and iTunes helper could improve her boot-time, but it wouldn't improve her site-loading.

What did you do before the page started to run slow

i remember now

i often watch movies streaming on netflix at bedtime

for a few nights i fell asleep with the video player remaining open

it was then that i started noticing the slowdown

I wouldnt discount the internet being the problem. Could be the network card dropping packets for example.

Open up run and type CMD then "hit enter"

type .. ping www.google.com

Notice the ping replies the "ms" or millisecond.

now type .. ping www.google.com -t -l 1024

See if you get a higher ping time. Normally google is around 40-60. If its jumping to 120+ and is giving you random " request timed out " errors, then its either a bad Nic, bad Cat5 or bad modem/RF issue.

Or it could be just needing to be cleaned up real well.

Hope that helps!

yea its MUCH better then it was. I dont have any problems personally anymore. I mean the main page is a little slow for my personal tastes, but thats because of its complex nature instead of a network issue.

I know this may be silly but.... did you reboot the PC yet ? Like full shut down and turn back on.

Ive been in tech support for many years, I just ask cause you never know when the simple answer is the right one.

It actually would if her RAM is filled up and windows is using her harddrive like virtual RAM. By removing the unecessary applications from startup RAM will be freed up and the PC will run much faster and process / load websites faster as a result.

there's one other possibility

i noticed you said you left a streaming video player open

the isp, they could have reduced the speed

some do this if you exceed a certain amount per day

worth checking

There's your problem.

At least it's not Vista! I hate Vista. Severely. I can't make myself like it for all I've tried.

:) i meant i wanted to know the possible connection in my computer getting flaky and my leaving the netflix media player on while i fell asleep

i never did that before i would close all the applications and turn the computer off but for a few days there i was just so tired i fell asleep before the movie was finished and so the media player remained open for hours
