Listening to it now.
And J.Lo. You are wrong. You are wrong about a lot of things, but this time I'm going to tell you what's up!
Spider-Man 3. Sandman being the Uncle Ben killer. NOT COOL.
Wait... wait... wait. It's not because he didn't in the comic, I don't care about that shit.
It's because this ruins the first movie. Spidey started to fight criminals because he let the guy who killed Uncle Ben go. It was his fault he dies.
It has to stay that way.
If not, I'll start killing kittens.

Maybe that's one of the points of the movies. That peter shouldn't have needed a personal reason to fight crime. That all along it was just the right thing to do and that's all that matters. Plus if flint really did kill uncle ben then that would push him even more to stop him (a little blacksuit revenge) leading him to question if the blacksuit should be used since if he kills sandman he ends up worse than him (plus when he stopped the original uncle ben killer he just handed him into the cops=the right thing instead of killing him for his own pleasure). I think it might be o.k if flint killed ben

Okay. Dan talking about his Gears of War game with Jeff = ****ING EPIC!
But really, the PS3 will get good games. It will get its own Gears of War.
Remember we had to wait a whole ****ing year before the X360 got a really good game. Wait a year, the PS3 will get good games.
Gears of War is the first next generation game Dan, we'll get so many cool new games on these new platforms.

great episode, I really enjoyed less interuptions during either Jlo or Danny's stories... anyway, Dannyt, just so you know, over the shoulder perspective in Geers of war is called third person. It's what console games usually use because fps is so difficult to achieve on anything but a pc.

Funny Harvey Danger story...
I was out karaoke-ing a few years ago and this guy starts singing Flagpole Sitta. I think to myself... man! This guy is great! He sounds exactly like the singer of this song. Of course it turned out that it was Sean (somethingorother) the lead singer of Harvey Danger. So then I felt sad. He went from singing in front of sold out arenas to in front of four or five drunks...
(Plus I really like their other hit about a helicopter...)

Gears of War is pretty ****ing cool... but! I still think this is just the first next generation game.
I mean, if we traveled a year into the future, Gears of War wouldn't be that special. It was just there first.

Right now I own:
Super Street Fighter II Turbo
Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Capcom vs. SNK 2
Samurai Shodown II
I want to buy a Japanese head to head cabinet for Street Fighter III: Third Strike and maybe a Konami X-Men 4 player cabinet.

The part of the show that made me scream at my monitor was "HAWK; The Slayer"! XD
I've never been a Jack Palance fan . It's that He seems more interested in breathing then actually saying his lines.. I've honestly not really liked him since I saw him in "Shane". I mean COME ON! How can you not know how to get off a horse? I've never ridden a horse [sure a few ponies in my youth] but in "Shane" he gets off so slow, the horse starts walking sideways and almost topples.
I am a big fan of "Hewk the Slayer". I've even gotten it on DVD now. It is such a piece of crap. Perfect for gauntlet nights. May I suggest adding 'Sorceress', 'Galaxy of Terror', 'Battle Beyond the Stars', and (well basically) most of the films of Roger Corman (Please note the MOST, "Apollo 13' being just one example of his 100% not owrthness). I would have to agree with Dan at first, Lucky and Wild is what I actually said aloud, then Dan said it and I was surprised to think anyone would've chose that too. But then I remembered, It would have to be Time Crisis 2. My friend and I used to spend hours playing that game wherever we found it, we both beat the game so many times and became quite good at it too, over 75% accuracy. Anyway, I have Lucky and Wild for MAME but since I don't have a steering wheel nor do I have any light-guns, I can't play it. But someday!

I'd have to go with Tecmo Bowl for the arcade cabinet. That thing was huge. 4 monitors side by side to form a widescreen view of the length of the football field(or half I think), so there would be less scrolling. If I could afford it, I'd get multiple cabinets: X Men, both Dungeons % Dragons games, Run & Gun Basketball, etc.
The senseable geek/nerd thing to do, and my friend has done it, is to built a cabinet and joysticks panel/board yourself and install a PC with MAME emulator and a ton of ROMs on the HD.

Shakespeare in Love to DannyT for our shared love of Shia LaBeouf. He's the only reason to watch Even Stevens.
Here is my stance on the WWE money-making machine: WWE has been shoveling cashola into their pockets for many, many, years. They do it by cross promoting t-shirt sales during weekly t.v. broadcasts. They have magazines, video games, dolls, novelty and real look alike championship belts, etc. I think they are freakin' genius to get into the film producing market. I just think they should have done it sooner. It's not like they were waiting to provide a quality product to their fans! They didn't hold back and wait to release the XFL did they?!
casting the Montly Cru movie... Emile Hirsch = Tommy Lee
I don't see it Diva. Tommy Lee is kinda tall, but since I don't want to take the time to find an alternative I'll stick with your pick.
The book about Motley Crue, The Dirt, was really good. I don't think they should try to make a movie out of it, but they're a eighties hair band. Eighties hair bands play things out until they (either the members themselves or their ideas/talents) die. That's the way they are. Nature of the Beast.
Jack Palance: I can't believe that no one has remembered him for Ripley's Believe it or Not. That show was freakin' awesome. I don't know Jack Palance from his westerns. I know him from showing me shrunken heads and 100 lb. tumors.

Here's my thinking... Tommy Lee was 19 when Montly Cru started, Emile is 20 (or 21) And I can't think of any other actor about that age that has the chops to play Tommy Lee without being over-the-top and goofy rather than real... plus, Emile is hot and he needs to be in more things :)

Howdy folks. New to the forum - and the podcast - but I thought I'd stop by to say how much I'm digging it.
I believe I was turned on to Geekdrome a few months back. I think it was the one with Kevin Smith where there was some mention of Joss Whedon? I found the link through www.whedonesque.com. Find me a geekier way to come upon a podcast. I challenge you.
I remember digging the show back then, but I only caught one or two episodes, and I sort of forgot about it for a while. Just the other day I remembered it and caught the newest podcast.
I love the show - you guys cover exactly the same stuff me and my friends gush (re: should not spend so much time on) about (re: on friday nights). Awesome. From comics to games to nit-picky, too-specific movie details. Where else can you find a drool-fest on Gears of War, the Spider-Man 3 trailer, and a critique on RUNNING WITH SCISSORS? Where, I ask you? Not elsewhere, that's where.
As for Superman? If your comic book depth goes deeper than "Dark Knight Returns", then yeah, he's a great character. "Superman For All Seasons" is great, but my favorite take on Big Blue (ironically) is Moore's run on "Supreme." Some of the most outright fun you can have in comics - and it's with, more or less, Superman. There's tons you can do with the character, it's just that not many people are willing to work for it.
Don't even get me started on the awesome of Morrison's "All-Star Superman."
Keep up the good work guys - I look forward to the anniversary show!
PS
Arcade machines? Wow. I haven't played one in ages. But if I had to pick, it would be all the ones that I used to love at Chuckie Cheeses when I was a kid (but really, it was last weekend): "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game" (was released as TMNT 2 on NES), "Simpsons: The Arcade Game" (dunno if it went to console), and, like... hell, I'll be a prude and go with one of those "Pac-Man" machines that you can still find in run-down bowling alleys. If you can keep the creepy gaze of the other patrons from distracting you, that game still has it!

I can play just about any arcade game on my computer right now with the right emulation software and roms so if I got the actual cabinet I would want something with special controls.
Discs of Tron – this puppy had a NEON joystick to move and a knob for aiming. The cabinet itself was lit with black lights and had mirrors to reflect the screen at weird angles. I must have put over $100 of quarters in this puppy at the old UCLA arcade when I was a kid.
Star Wars – This was a REALLY old wireframe game but had a cool flight yoke controller.
Marvel vs. Capcom – Even though I sit at a computer for over 8 hours a day I blame this game for giving me carpel tunnel. I spent HOURS learning every air combo for every player. This is the only street fighter type game that I ever really got into and I still play it from time to time on my Dreamcast. I would love to have the actual cabinet.

Hey kids, I have been listening for about four months to my beloved geekdrome and I have finally decided to register and begin immersing myself into the world of geekeration. I was pondering over which arcade cabinet I would like to have in my house and hands down it has to be "X-Men vs. Street Fighter", perhaps the greatest arcade game ever devised. I had such an addiction to that game in the arcade, that I imported it from Japan for the Sega Saturn, which required that I buy a 4mb RAM cartridge which all in all cost me well over 150 bucks...an enormous amount for a fledgling college student.
Dan's review of Gears of War was spot on, I will go on to say that it may be the greatest shooter I have ever played. This is the pinnacle of gaming. Unfortunately, I have no friends that are really that into gaming, so if any of you would like to hook up on LIVE and go co-op with me, I want to play through the game again on hardcore. My LIVE name is ShortfinMaacko, get at me if you are interested.
I'm looking forward to the next episode where hopefully you guys will review Casino Royale, I can't wait to see that shit. Peace out dromies

Don't hate me, but I've never played an arcade game, ever.
Arcades are not big here in the UK (or they are, but the only 'games' are slot machine type things and the only customers are creepy old men). I have seen one or two machine at the airport, and at the bowling lanes, but usually I just play air hockey, which I rule at.

I forgive you. Airhockey is the shit.
Come to the states and we'll play up some arcade machines.

One note about Jon's short rant on actors with middle names.
I had always heard that the SAG requires you to not have the same screen name as another member. Thats why there are so many actors that use their middle name professionally.

I know brother. But can't I still rant about it?
Maybe there should be a rule that the dude with the higher earnings gets the name. Or they fight for it in a pitfight.

I was a little surprised it wasn't mentioned since generally you guys are really knowledgeable.
Its cool you respond though. I haven't looked at this board before.
PS
I'm right there with you on Gears of War Dan. I'm actually frightened by the berserker. It has more impressive graphics than that crappy Final Fantasy movie that came out a while ago.

Baldric, you were frightened by the berserker?...I literally jumped off my couch and stoop up right. My lady was sitting beside me working on her laptop and even she let out a muffled yelp as her eyes darted to the TV. That game in 5.1 surround on a big tv must be the most immersive interactive experience I have ever been a part of. And again, is anyone is up for some LIVE co-op with a total stranger, hit me up (ShortfinMaacko).

I just got a 50 inch 1080p HDTV, it is like the berserker is killing me in real life.
My favorite thing in gears of war is the perfect imitation of shaky running camera battle footage when you hold A. I feel like an extra on Band of Brothers.

All-time fav arcade machine: Gauntlet (http://www.ggdb.com/GameByName.aspx?c=Coin-Op&s=Arcade&l=G&vid=1083)
Four person co-op fun with yer buds. Took many a quarter from me my freshman year in college (1986)...quarters that could have been better used on washing/drying clothes.
Sinbad said it best, "In college you have two piles of clothes. Dirty and funky. Dirty you can wear again."

"Valkyrie is hungry!"
I loved that game so much!

Does gears output natively in 1080p or does your TV upsacle the image? The rodie run is just one aspect that makes that game so astounding. For me, it is just the whole look of the game, when I saw footage in IGN previews, I just had no idea the game would actually look like that, unbelievable. Dannyt needs to organize some friendly geekdrome multiplayer battles, after reading a bunch of recent posts, I think we could have more than enough dromies.

I don't think he buys a new shirt for every episode.
