Anyone else experience this? Windows Media Play 11 just stops playing and pops an error: Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.
I have...
Windows XP SP2,
Celeron 2.66ghz,
Comcast High Speed Broadband,
Linksys WIFI 802.11b/g with speedbooster,
32'' Vizio LCD

Never had this problem before.

Had to resort to watching on embedded player.... yuk!

Try playing with VLC, see if it plays there or if the file is just bananas.

Yes! Thanks dude! VLC Player works but the video is a little jittery... oh well. I have watched tons of these on WMP in fullscreen cuz they look great on my 32" LCD. Praeger or Glen or whomever must have some bad mojo creating the WMV... hmmm...

I am watching #147 with WMV 11 (11.0.5721.5145) right now and I am not experiencing any such problems. At what point in the video are you experiencing the problem?

What about other formats? Like the HD?

I've got this exact same problem, however its ACROSS THE BOARD of all Rev3 shows. WMV's get anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes into the show and just dies with the generic WMP error message "cannot play this file, blah blah blah"

upon playing this same file in VLC the point where WMP has the issue VLC will also hiccup a bit, but then mow through it like VLC does so well. it almost seems like the files are just broken somehow in their encoding.

the problem started about 2 weeks ago, prior to which i was able to simply allow WMP to play the show as it buffered/downloaded. was there a change recently in the encoding of shows? or is this just one of those wierd mysteries that no one seems to know.. guess we'll see. for now i'll just have to put up with the flash version. at least i KNOW that one wont break on me.

I have been having the same problem with ALL the Rev3 shows. It always happens at the same point in the video. What is up rev3? I really want to watch your shows but encoding errors make me not want to watch and get disappointed constantly.
EDIT: On the diggnation ep. "Urban star wars cats" I get an error c00d002f in my zune software at 57 sec into the show. I get it for the live internet superstar @ adtech at 19:51 with the same error.

I'm also having a problem which seems to off started a three weeks ago.

Diggnation
Systm
Tekzilla

I do not have the same issue with Tekzilla Daily, The GigaOm Show or The Digg Reel all of which I subscribe from the "Large WMV" feeds.

I quick search of Google indicates the issue could be to do with the bitrate being too high. So Revision3 people did you increase the bitrate on the "Large WMV" feed files?

Running XP Media Center 2005, Intel Pentium D 3ghz. This issue started for me 3 wks ago.

I have to throw my hat in here too. Its making watching the shows very difficult. I use the Large WMV format for my Zune subscription. Unfortunately 'mowing through' the problem on the Zune means loosing chunks of the show if I can get past the hickup at all.

I've been watching the shows I can't miss online but others are being sidelined until this is fixed. Sorry guys, I know you work hard on this but it's been about three weeks now.

I'm happy to help troubleshoot if you need.

Just chiming in with the same problem. It's happening with the large wmv format in all the longer shows, TRS, Diggnation, and Tekzilla. So far I'm able to watch the shows online but it really is frustrating to get halfway through a show and have Media Player just stop.

Hi all,

We might have a fix for the issue that some of you are experiencing. We encoded this week's episode of the Revision3 Gazette (http://revision3.com/rev3gazette/andrew/) WMV's with an updated software. It would be great if you could view the WMV versions and verify that the issue has indeed been addressed.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

This week's Revision3 Gazette WMV or all WMV's from this week?

I have been having the same problem with all the Rev3 shows (the large shows, none of the daily ones). I am watching the Rev3 Gazette that might have the fix in it, and I got through the whole thing without a problem.

I tried TRS and gazette and they both worked.

I too am seeing corruption in wmv files. I subscribe to the small wmv versions of diggnation and TRS on my Zune player and the recent episodes of each have had problems recently where they just stop playing about 5 minutes into the episodes.

Same for me. Had a problem with TRS on Tuesday, but the Rev3 Gazette came through without a glitch.

Mind you, the Gazette was only 13 minutes. I find that only the shows longer than half an hour were causing problems in the first place. Hopefully tomorrow's Diggnation will come through without a glitch.

Yup Yup. Gazette was Perfect all the way. I now anxiously await the arrival of Tekzilla :D

Just want to add that I'm having the same kinds of problems with the small wmv. When I try to fast forward it goes through a chunk of time, multiple times, before advancing forward. Example would be starting at 1:21, hold down FF, time starts advancing towards 3:00 then it resets back to 1:21 and starts again making it to about the same place at which point it repeats the same motion for another few times before being able to jump that hurdle and advance like normal. Will add that when it gets close the the end, while fast forwarding, it hits a point where it assumes the episode is over even if I have around 10 minutes to go.

Also get an issue when I click to jump forward and it's like there are bookmarks where it gets pulled back to. So I might be at 30:00, click to jump and wind up at 25:00.

This last episode had the biggest errors. The episode would stop abruptly at certain points. Sometimes I could skip forward past the crash and sometimes it wouldn't be able to make it past the same place. All the while also experiencing the same problems as above. Ended up downloading the xvid version and watching it on my laptop.

I would say that I've been having these issues for at least 6 episodes now. Hopefully the fix that was just implemented addresses these problems. Will see on next weeks TRS.

Have downloaded the wmv large to my ps3 to watch the show and about 1 to
5 minutes in it says the file is corrupted.
When i download it on my pc tho it plays fine, but i want to see the shows on
my 60" tv.
This is for all shows i download not just diggnation or my other fave Techzilla, Pixel Perfect,
Scam School.
So i do think there is something wrong at least from the ps3 side.
