Mothers day is coming up and I want to get my mom a DSLR that she will not grow out of for a wile. I have narrowed it down to the D60 and the XTi but these cameras are so similar I just don't know which is best. So i was hopping i could get some input.

You should be comparing the Nikon D60 with Canon XSI.

Unless she is into phoography, get her a decent point and shoot instead. Something she can fit into a handbag and have at hand without the need to lug a camera bag around with her (especially if she is travelling a lot).

I will semi-agree with this. I have both, a DSLR and a point-n-shoot. Sometimes carrying the huge DSLR just plain sucks and is not practical. For vacations and concerts and other places a large bag is not practical, the point-n-shoot is best. So, you have to figure out what kind of pictures she likes to take. Is it the spur-of-the-moment kind where she needs to have the camera on her side all of the time? If so, a point-n-shoot is best. If she likes to go places JUST to take pictures, maybe she won't mind the size of the DSLR.

The Nikon D60 is a bit of a dud. Consider a Nikon D80 instead.
