My poor Dell XPS M1530 can run off of AC power but it can't charge the battery anymore because the adapter isn't recognized in the BIOS.

I don't want my beloved lappie to die!!

Anyone else have this problem? any solutions?

I find it strange that the laptop can run off of AC power, but doesn't charge the battery. Are you sure this isn't a battery problem?

Also, is the adapter not recognized in the BIOS when running off of AC power?

Correct, BIOS reports battery as healthy but the AC adapter is listed as "unknown device." I'm hoping it's just the firmware in the adapter not communicating anymore, otherwise its the laptop connector not accepting the AC's connection.

Been waiting for about 2 hours for Dell customer support to call me back.
Guess I'll be calling them back tomorrow because I'm tired as all getout.

You can reset the BIOS back to the default settings, just remember to make sure to change any settings back that you have personally changed like boot order or overclock settings.

If you can get your hands on another Dell battery test it w/o ac adapter and then also w/o the battery. Test to see what occurs if you test it with another ac adapter and your original battery and it charges then you just got to get another ac adapter. If you test it with another battery w/o ac adapter and it fails to power, it could be an issue on the board where the battery connects to board is located. I have seen several machines like the one you mention and most of the time its a systemboard replacement when this occurs.

Check to see if you battery is under a recall as well.

Called Dell today and they actually helped this time. According to the guy it seemed like a systemboard problem like you said.

I should be getting a call from a tech sometime after 2PM next wednesday to schedule an appointment or instructions on how to send it in or something.

Hope my warranty covers it =/

thanks for all the info guys, hopefully all will be well by the end of the day.

Kinda wish I didn't have an exam today as well, but oh well.

It was covered. A guy came to my apartment to replace the piece onsite, which is kinda awesome. All is well now
