Ok, so I thought I'd check out Caffeine (http://www.lightheadsw.com/caffeine) after Tekzilla Daily plugged it (http://revision3.com/tzdaily/2008-04-28caffeine) last week, and I'm trouble installing it. When I double-click the application icon, nothing happens. I try repeatedly to make it work using numerous methods, and...nothing's happening.
What am I supposed to do to make this work?

I don't have a Mac in front of me to test this, but I'll just speak generally. Some programs don't have "installers." You simply mount the image (dmg) file by double clicking on it, open the mount point (the white disk drive icon that just appeared on your desktop), and drag the caffeine application folder to your local Applications folder. If Caffeine doesn't have a wizard installer, try that.

Are you using the latest version of Mac OS X? Some applications won't run in older version of the OS.

Its easier just to go to System Preferences > Energy Saver > Options > remove check Automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep

That doesn't quite do the same thing. And it defies the point of Caffeine. Caffeine basically gives your computer a third state that is manually selected for power settings, usually as the name/theme implies for when you are getting ready for a heavy lifting session. It also stops all the other powersaver events from happening like sleep or power off.
It should only start a little mug option in your menu bar (across the top) if I remember correctly. Then you click once on that to turn it on.
Thanks,
Mat.

It's an app in a zip file.
Double click the zip file to decomp. Drag app into Applications (or leave it where it is if you must), run app. Hold down Cmd key + click on coffee cup to access options. It doesn't get any simpler than this.
