News from Twitter. Patrick's Tweets that Veronica gets rid of OSX and goes with Vista and is never happier. And we have to wait until Friday! Booo! What do you think could have caused her to jump ship?

I would imagine Sarcasm does.

Considering that she hasn't said anything about it on her site or on Twitter, I'm thinking that it's probably a joke.

I guess. It did seem a little wierd that she would. But we would have her on the dark side

I immediately thought of it as a ploy to win over the hearts of the mostly-Windows Tekzilla audience (though it seems like she's already done that). And also to make peace with the recent "Patrick hates Vista" tirade that was going on.

That being said I hope the above isn't true.

Did he seriously write that?? What a weirdo.

Anyhow, no, I'm not suddenly switching to Vista from OS X, although I am planning on building a gaming PC that would probably run Vista on it.

Let's think of a good rumor to start about Patrick on Twitter... he doesn't read the forums enough, he'll never know...

He's going to auction his kilts and donate the proceeds to Pirate Bay.

=[ I missed the TechTV days.
Stupid basic cable.

Anyways, unless the gaming PC is super highend, why not drop XP on there? DX10 is still pretty immature anyways, and few games are DX10 exclusive. Usually just runs with barely noticeable graphical enhancement and very noticeable speed hit. I know specifically crysis, with a config file hack can run at very high on DX9, and other than fine details in like, gravel, it looks the same with a higher framerate.

Oh, before I get attacked, I'm a windows fanboy and regularly use vista on my laptop. I just prefer gaming on my XP desktop because it runs alot faster and oddly enough uses half the memory at least for call of duty 4 [could be since it's natively DX9].

The DirectX 10.1 in SP1 fixes a lot of the problems. Combined with other performance updates and updated drivers. In Vista, drivers no longer have kernel access, this is a good thing. That's why there have been problems from lazy companies. It's very minor at this point and the only way it will get better is if people use the stuff and report back to the companies on it.

XP is a step backwards at this point. If you're going to build a high end PC then install an OS that can take advantage of the hardware as Vista does.

Touche good sir.

Remembered after posting that vista ran great [dual-booted for awhile] other than call of duty 4. Need to get more memory and vista x64 though [used the dual-booted license on a media center PC and I try to stay legal]. Other problem is that I havent been able to get my hands on SP1 because the network authorizing tool my college uses doesnt support it.

I've heard LOTS of people who claim that their games run much better in XP than Vista, even people who love Vista. It might be better now that the SP is out, but just make sure the games going to run well enough.

DOH! My masterplan of emitting a signal to brainwash her into dropping OSX didn't work... apple's signal must be stronger... hmm wonder if I can lure her into a Faraday cage?

note: not a M$ fan or a apple hater :)

and how long ago did you hear that? What games and were they running Dx9 or Dx10 clients on games that have both?

The truth is currently with Vista, you can do a lot to hurt your performance. The main example is Dx10, most games that have Dx10 clients run shitty. Primarily because the game was designed to run on Dx9 and they ported it to Dx10, think of this like if you ever played Halo on PC... it's shit because it was completely designed for a console.

Also, having up to date drivers is essential, about 6 months ago with every new NVidia video driver I could see noticeable performance increase. That honestly shouldn't be happening if Nvidia had their shit together. Recently, I don't see that noticeable of performance increases with driver updates.

I specifically said it might be better now, I'm just saying she should make sure that whatever she wants to play will run well enough in Vista!

It will be comparatively slower but unless you're running some prehistoric pile of manure I don't see a huge issue. With the options available you can certainly build yourself a significantly more stable and powerful gaming option than any Boot Camp possibility.

You and Pat should have an all Kilt episode.
Also Pat needs to bring back the sledge hammer.

Just a thought, if you are building a super dooper gaming machine then get a good PSU. High spec PCs use as much as thirty times more power than a laptop, so paying extra for a PSU that only draws as much power as the PC needs is a good idea...

Along the lines of Leo/ Martin joke. How about twittering that Patrick has a restraining order on Chris Pirilo.

I thought everyone did.
Even when Tech TV was still around my TV had some safety feature automatically muted itself or turned it self off when he came on..then everything just came back on when he was off.

The reason Vista is 10% slower in FPS than XP is because the video drivers don't have Kernel access anymore. When a video driver runs in user space, performance will always be slower when compared with drivers that have Kernel access (XP drivers).

Like someone mentioned earlier in the thread, this was done to improve stability.

Except they didn't count on the driver developers. Maybe Ballmer should threaten at the next developer conference to lock the doors and shout Developers! while doing a nude monkey dance right up in their faces as long as it takes to get third parties to commit to stable drivers...

No, she's supposed to get a Star Trek uniform, not a school uniform. :p

[guess I should explain this is a reference to a past episode of Crank Geeks -- you can probably Google the topic too]

Erm no ..I meant what I said and personally why do people have this pedo desire for women to dress like schools girls.
It's creepy.

Look at the pic posted earlier I was not having a perv thing going but just a return of the utlikilt ep.
