[23:43] [23:43] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: hello,
[23:43] *** Auto-response sent to suicide.bear@hotmail.com: I am currently away from the computer.
[23:43] Ari: Who is this?
[23:43] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: a friend of someone who was looking for people to talk to, are you good with computers?
[23:44] Ari: Yes, though I am on the phone right now. :)
[23:44] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: ok well, do u want to know who he is
[23:44] Ari: of course. :)
[23:44] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: http://www.kxly.com/news/index.php?sect_rank=2&section_id=560&story_id=2897
[23:45] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: i can get you the new york times article or fox news if you want, but that has a video and everything
[23:46] Ari: I don't know that person.
[23:46] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: surprised, you should of herd of him if you're into computer news, it's the first crime of its time and is a huge case, theres been podcasts and all sorts of stuff onit
[23:47] Ari: Just working with computers doesn't mean I choose to be familiar with hackers.
[23:48] Ari: I take it you know Robert Moore?
[23:49] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: yeah hes a local friend, they took all his stuff and cant get online anymore, hes always looking for someone to talk to on the phone since obviously having your life taken away you can imagine the boredness
[23:49] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: he was known online as MooreR, used to own www.moorer-software.com but its gone nowand forwards to my site
[23:50] Ari: Let me guess. He calls collect or I call him at some foreign number.
[23:50] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: hes in trouble, he doesnt care how
[23:50] Ari: What help is it that he wants?
[23:50] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: he will be going to jail at any time
[23:50] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: he just wants to talk to a computer savvy person
[23:50] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: a friend
[23:51] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: someone to talk about stuff with im sure
[23:51] Ari: I'm not a friend, I am a stranger.
[23:51] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: anyhone whos a computer person is a friend of roberts
[23:51] Ari: Look, my ID was stolen when I was 18. I'm 25 now and have spent over $50k over the past seven years on this shit. Why would I want to help someone like this? Since I work in e-mail and internet security, why would I want to associate with someone in a way that could ruin my career?
[23:52] Ari: Give me his number, but I know precautions.
[23:52] Ari: I know how to verify a number as being a US number and how to block my number in a way he can't get. Hell, it will look like his own number calling him.
[23:54] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: you dont know his whole reasoning for doing this, he can explain it
[23:54] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: hes not a common theif, when do u think u could call him
[23:54] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: that's fine, u dont have to give your info
[23:54] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: 509-216-3859
[23:54] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: its a cell
[23:54] Ari: Your e-mail address looks familiar.
[23:55] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: it's a new email address, but it's possible i guess?
[23:55] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: robert used to run on customer@hotmail.com
[23:56] Ari: Tell me what he wants and your motivation for getting him help.
[23:56] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: he just wants to talk, that's it.. call him from a spoofed number if you want, it's fine.. trust me, just call him and talk, it will be a regular chat.. hes extremely down in the dumps right now and really wants new friends, since he cant get on the net to make them anymore
[23:57] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: because i feel bad for him, roberts got a lot of shit going on in his life and theres a lot of reasoning behind all of this and i'm a friend, so theres no reason to deny him
[23:57] Ari: Why risk your own freedom to get him out?
[23:57] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: hes not in jail right now, and im not risking anything
[23:58] Ari: Can he be called tomorrow after I get sleep?
[23:58] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: anytime is fine
[23:58] Ari: Tomorrow. Tell me who you are.
[00:01] Ari: Hello?
[00:03] Ari: Is this Jason Recardo?
[00:09] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: anyways, thanks for taking into consideration talking to him, he'll appreciate it.
[00:09] Ari: Tell me who you are.
[00:09] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: i just told you who i was
[00:09] Ari: You didn't tell me anything.
[00:10] Ari: I asked if this is Jason Recardo and your next message thanked me for taking this into consideration.
[00:10] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: oh my bad, you must of not go it, sorry this linksys is a piece of crap
[00:10] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: i said im jason a local friend who lives a few blocks from robert, i took over his domain, well i re-fowarded it to my site www.article7.org and put up what i could find of his work
[00:11] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: we hang out a lot, so u might call and we'll be hanging out
[00:11] Ari: What is his domain that you forwarded?
[00:11] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: www.moorer-software.com
[00:12] Ari: Why should I believe it safe to contact someone who commited phone fraud for millions?
[00:13] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: you dont have to, dont worry about it if you're so bothered by it.. they caught him, his stuff was taken away, hes going to be facing jail time, he wont do what he did again and he would of never done it if it wasnt for his families health issues, plus he wasnt the mastermind behind it, he just wrote the software and broke into the VOIP boxes, the guy who is the main fish Edwin Pena fled the US
[00:14] Ari: Why don't you call him and entertain him? WHy does he not go to your house and chat with people?
[00:14] Ari: If they took his stuff, you know that means that third-party internet usage is a crime, and you are assisting.
[00:15] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: because he cant be online or around computers and hes following the law, because we hang out all the time, but only for a while because i have shchool
[00:15] Ari: You are helping him get around that. You are violating the law.
[00:15] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: im not breaking the law at all. i am asking people to call him to talk to him.. his probation STRICLLY forbids the use of computers and internet
[00:15] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: that's it.
[00:15] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: and not leaving the state
[00:15] Ari: Yes, but you are doing it for him.
[00:16] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: by asking for people to call him? i cant see that happening
[00:16] Ari: That's not a loophole.
[00:16] Ari: You said he needs help.
[00:16] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: no i didnt, i said he wants friends to talk to
[00:16] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: thats the whole reason i asked you to call him
[00:16] Ari: Jason dear, please realize that you are running the risk of getting yourself into a lot of trouble.
[00:16] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: and you're blowing this way out of what it originally from
[00:17] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: a p h o n e c a l l so he can talk to someone other then me, thats not a risk fo anything other then being a friend
[00:17] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: but nevermind, sorry to bother you, good bye
[00:17] Ari: Well, anyone with a brain wouldn't be comfortable calling someone who is in trouble for stealing millions via phone.
[00:18] Ari: This will be reported to the Spokane PD in the morning. Their non-emergency offices are closed until morning.
[00:19] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: Ok cool, do what you gotta do. Anyone who knows anything about VOIP knows its VOICE OVER INTERNET not over the phone lol.
[00:19] suicide.bear@hotmail.com: anyways, see ya.

This is copied and pasted exactly, nothing edited, not even the phone number. That long pause was there.

I asked if the person's name was Jason Ricardo as that is the name that Trillian showed.

The article also mentions him in trouble for hacking into telephone service providers.

In the morning, I will call the Spokane PD (where 509 is). I tried calling tonight, but got a message saying to call back during normal business hours.

Anyway, I wanted to know your thoughts on this IM.

Thats really interesting. I don't quite know what to make of it, but i can safely say i'm tempted to pump some quarters into a pay phone tomorrow and call that number for shits and giggles..

Definitely let us know about the response the Spokane police give too; i'm quite curious..

What I've been able to verify so far is true.

Bird, I work in primarily in anti-fraud (anti-span secondarily), and detected right off something not right, and so decided to play along and see what I could find out.

I contacted the Spokane PD this morning. My gods, we are such a society of reaction and punishment rather than prevention and rehabilitation. As I'm in California, unless I fell prey to it and lost money, nothing can be done. If I were to go to the Spokane PD in person, they could look up the terms of his release to his parents and act on a violation of release (using a third-party for internet/phone usage). But they can't do that for someone on the phone because that would be to release info over the phone, which they can't do. The lady said it did sound like a possible crime attempt, but she couldn't verify his release conditions.

So if this is indeed an attempted crime, he's off completely free for it.

If someone were to call that number from anything but a pay phone and it forwards (without you knowing) to another number that charges tons of money per minute, you're on the hook for the charges. A pay phone would demand more money right away. It's a common feature on cell phones to have call-forwarding. I sometimes use it myself (forward to my office phone while I'm at work) and no one's the wiser to it. I suspect that may be what was attempted here.

So the moral of the story is to make sure you steal enough money to flee the country! If you fail in your attempt, it's okay because no crime was committed! So make sure to steal enough to get away and life's good!

Evan, it seems familiar to me too. Very familiar. Usually I ignore people who IM me at that address if they don't seem familiar or I don't suspect they are from the Rev3 forums. This is the only place I use my personal e-mail for MSN messenger (a Google search of my e-mail address ONLY connects it with Rev3) rather than the one I created for usual forums. Is there any way to see if that address belongs to someone here?

*Klitzys embarassed*

My secrets out

I hope you're kidding. Because this isn't funny. When I mentioned in the IM convo about my ID being stolen when I was 18 and paying out over $50k since then in court fees, attorney's fees, etc., I am dead serious. Seven years, divided by $50k, divided by 12 months, means I've averaged almost $600 per month for every month since I was 18 that I've paid for this shit. Mercifully, nothing new since last year aside from about $1k in unauthorized charges to my bank account (which I have not yet been successful in getting back from the bank), but you get the idea. Take out that that $50k includes paying nothing (not counting that $1k) for the last year, and it comes out to more per month for the times I was having to come up with that money.

It sure as hell isn't nice to have police knocking at your door at 9 at night to inform you of a warrant for a felony committed in your name in a state you've never been to. Even though I was able to prove innocence in that case (as I was in surgery at the time it happened in a state 3,000 miles away), I still spent three days in jail waiting to see a judge to get bail set, which is money you don't get back from the bail bonds place, in addition to thousands more on an attorney. The stress set off the worst seizure I've had to date, one where I stopped breathing and nearly died from lack of oxygen. While I was in the ER, the judge set bail at half the minimum allowable.

When the country prosecutor suggests no longer bringing you in for statements for things because they know how it will end (your innocence proven), but rather simply call for a phone statement, then fropping it, the very people whose job it is to prosecute people being on your side!, you find very little to laugh about.

I could have bought a hella nice car with that, a bunch of awesome trips, started a company, even bought a house in some areas of the US, with that much money.

People who try to fraud people should be shot. I'm not laughing about this.

So if you're kidding, I don't appreciate it. If this was you, we're going to have problems.

First.....Sorry and uh definitely was not me. But I have a few questions for you. I understand in your situation and I am sure what you have been through changes a person tremendously but is this how everyone should respond to IM's like this? Like I said..I understand you being overly cautious but I have gotten a few things like this, talked to them, said bye, blocked them, gone on.

Also, how does one get their identity stolen?

If you dont feel comfortable answering or anything I understand and once again...sorry for kidding around..

I played along hoping to get info to stip the jerk. Too bad the Spokane PD won't do anything until someone loses money.

Back in 1999, when my ID was stolen, ID theft was unheard of to all but the very, very few to whom it happened. We didn't think about shredding documents, burning credit card offers, etc.. No one worried about putting their e-mail address, phone number, and other personal info online because we had more trust in people. Sending cash to pay for an auction was okay, and who worried about sending a check? Making fake checks using the routing and account number was something we didn't think of happening. Being tech savvy basically meant knowing how to use e-mail or put up a crude webpage on AOL, and saying you had a domain name was damned near prestigious. Some states even used your social security number as your driver's license number. So one card, flashed whenever you went to see an R-rated movie, write a check, etc., had your name, birthdate, and social right there on one piece of plastic.

I don't know if it happened when our garbage can was stolen, which we thought funny at the time, if it was when I paid for something and showed my driver's license, which had info on it, or what. But it happened. And now, seven years later, I'm still dealing with the repercussions, still trying to get my credit cleaned up (the deposit for my apartment was higher due to crap on my report, though I personally don't even like the thought of credit), and and lucky to have my job since it's common these days for your credit score to be used when determining who to hire.

You don't need to be embarassed, but people need to know that it's not as easy as informing the credit bureaus, getting a new social security number, etc.. Getting a new SSN is nearly impossible (the courts have not determined me to be inconvenienced enough to need one yet), the credit bureaus are a pain, and anything that happens in your name, regardless of credit status or social, you are going to have to pay to deal with. Trying to keep one step ahead of the game becomes life, and you get used to feeling like you have several identities. Only one person on this board know the name I use at work, and at work, only two, a friend and a boss I feel should know, know the name I use here. Basically, if something happens to one name, I have an idea where to go to find out where it started. It's a frightening existence, a careful dance, and I'm sick of it. While as normal to me now as breathing, I still hate it.

So if someone tries to lure someone into something that may be illegal, it pisses me off more than I can convey in writing. Only with screaming and throwing thing could anyone who has not experienced this even begin to understand.

It's so upsetting to think about that I've been nauseated today, my hands feel cold, and I'm having a hard time focusing on my work.

I'm Aria, and I am a real-life ID-theft victim. And yet I know my case is still mild compared to others. That frightens me more than anything, to know that my case is only of moderate severity.

She has everyone fooled - even Woz. Never seen people pretending to be people they weren't on MySpace ... doing it in real life takes real talent.

Right "Aria" ;)

(BTW - identity theft sucks. we shead all the credit card offers that we receive. The minute you get a house, the number of these goes through the roof ... and could easily be misdirected to steal a couple of credit cards. with enough forms of ID, then you can start to establish other more formal forms of ID ... drivers licences, etc. False identities are easier to establish than people might suspect.)

Xi, your brother should keep an eye on things for a while, make sure nothing else happens. It's possible that the thieves just got a hold of enough to wreak havoc in his account without being able to do worse, but you don't know.

Anyways, Anyone wanna skype that number (using the free skypeout that goes for another month and a half?) It essentially cant be charged, because your not using any billing info, and skype will show up as 0000123456 on the CID, so, it would be about the safest way (for average people) to go about playing with the number
