being that I'm already late for work, I will keep this short. While I was waiting for tenacious D.. I went to the theater around the block, and the only show time that was convenient was for the prestige. That movie kicks major ****ing ass. I will be honest in that saying I enjoyed it more than any other movie this year. I personally think that United 93 was a better movie. Well scratch that, not necessarily a better movie, but more important movie and more emotional movie. But the prestige for me was invigorating as hell. I was constantly curious as to what was going to happen next I hadn't felt like this in the movie theater in awhile well except for maybe when I saw Men in Black Men 2.
I give it a solid 9.5 out of 10. and I mean, solid
Spoilers Major spoilers
I listened to the review with Dan and Alex Albrecht, and I still in my mind can understand how Tesla actually built the machine for Hugh Jackman's character. As I recall Hugh Jackman's character went to Tesla and said, you built a machine for another magician, I want the same machine. He didn't give him any blueprints. I mean, if Tesla could build a machine that could duplicate people or objects he would have been rich. He would have succeeded even with his shop at being burnt to the ground. There was still that working prototype. regardless of that. I don't see how it was merely coincidental that Bale's character scent Jackman's character there as a wild goose chase and Tesla actually building that machine. To me, this didn't make any sense whatsoever, but it didn't stop me from really really loving this movie. If anybody can explain that to me it would be nice is to me it doesn't make any sense. Oh and bullshit answers will not be tolerated. :-)
come on Danny explain this to me

Remember how they were both at Tesla's show? I think that started Bale's interest in Tesla. Also, I think Bale did have Tesla build a machine...we see it in a later version of his trick...but it is only to add drama...it actually doesn't teleport him.
I think Bale had Tesla build that machine for show, but Jackman went to Tesla and said...I need a machine that will teleport me. Tesla never built a machine that did that...he just made one with "pretty lights".
Why did Bale send Jackman to Tesla? I think for 2 reasons...One he is far away and that sends Jackman on a wild goose chase. Two...I think Bale related to Tesla due to his feud with Thomas Edison. That dynamic is pretty close to that of Bale and Jackman.
Does any of that make sense? It's early for me so let me know and I will try to clear it up better.

I personally think that it was all a cunning ruse on Bale's part. He saw Jackman at the Tesla show... and when it came time for him to think of a way to get Jackman out of his hair, he thought, why not send him out of the country? He didn't actually have Tesla build him anything.

i agree with you, am i wrong that bale had a device that dealt with electricity in a later version of his trick? it has been a few weeks since i saw it and with the jumping around of story line i could be remembering it different. i am just pretty sure bale had a machine, but it didn't do anything.

I thought Bale did goto Tesla, isn't that where he got his perfect double? At least that's what my friends thought.

You missed the point of the movie. Bale didn't get cloned. He and his twin were sharing the same life. The twist was that Jackman trying to figure out the trick discovered real magic.

no, his "perfect double" was his twin that was with him for the entire movie... if you go back and watch it a second time, you realize he was there the whole the time, you just didn't know to look.

great movie, but i wish Jackman's machine had been a con. making it real took me out of the movie right at the end. i liked it better when they were just cons that were conning each other.

no, it makes perfect sense, but it just seems a little out there. Even for this movie. But that doesn't stop it from being one of the best movies I've seen in a while

I don't know why so many people don't get the plot - my sister is still puzzling over it a week after we saw it (not then, she's not a geek). Regardless, I think this is one of the best films this year (sharing the title with Little Miss Sunshine and closly followed by Brick). But now I'm wondering if anyone has read the book, and if it is any good?

Oh, how it pains me, but I totally agree with you.
if The Christopher Priest that wrote the novel is the same Priest who wrote The Ray at DC and the Marvel Knights Black Panther Relaunch at Marvel? I've seen a book or two by him at the book store but the bio in the book jackets never mentions comics work. It's been bugging me.

Christopher Priest (comic writer) used to be known as Jim Owsley and then changed his name to Christopher Priest without known there was a famed science fiction writer with the same name. He has now changed his name to just Priest and hes also a reverend. So no they arnt the same person.
Ok, I can consider my befudlement over. I knew about the Jim Owsley --> Christopher Priest conversion. And I have noticed that he just goes by preist these days (I was actually at Marvel around the time that started and always thought people were just bowing to his coolness). Didn't know he was actually a reverend. See? These forums are fun and educational.
