View Full Version : Interested in live tutoring sessions on Ustream?

Dunno if this is too nutty an idea (or if it's too soon to try it), but I was thinking of hosting a live Ustream show, offering more in depth explanations of the tricks in previous episodes and giving you guys a chance to ask followup questions in a quasi-one-on-one environment.

Any interest?

I would definitely be interested in it. The one thing I would request for it would be a recorded version so that those that miss it can watch afterward. You could possibly see if Revision3 will host the bandwidth for it and put it in the regular feed.

I think ustream automatically saves the files so people who weren't watching live could watch it later.

I think it would be cool to do a "live show"... just let us know the day and time with a couple weeks notice and that way you can also plug it on the show...

Would be pretty cool. It could just be a hang... show some scams.... answer questions about the scams and questions about you... like a one one chat with your fans. Would be pretty awesome.

I have not tried any of the tricks, yet I've seen every episode. But I'd love to give them a try in front of the master.

Brian, you sound uncertain that you'd be able to get a crowd to do this, but show it on air and I'm sure you'll get more than you need.

I don't know how well slight of hand tricks like nim, or pulling a match stick out of the air would work with a streaming live feed.
Someone should look into that.

does ustream do multiple-video simulcast? or would another client work better?

You can do a multiple-video simulcast but you would either have to have each camera feeding to a separate feed or have a switcher to switch between the camera on one thing. The uStream software itself can't do that.

does stickam? I guess what we'd want is a multiple-screen video conference setup or something...

Ideally, it could be like a call-in program where I'm on one screen full time, but we cycle through "callers" on another 1-3 screens, and work on techniques.

Well, if you wanted to use Stickam, you can have it setup where you have yourself as the main video and then have six other video feeds on the screen where callers can display their live feed. You can control who can be display on the feed. Their can also be a chat as well.

That wouldn't be able to work. That would force you to say you will never go to Revision3 and you would also bad mouth Rev3 all the time.

There is a site that allows multiple feeds, unfortunatly I discovered it 2 months ago... and I'm more than half in the bag, so I'll never remember what site it was.... if someone can rediscover the site for me it would be amazing... so someone find it for Brian... please

I think so. not for the next few days, though. I've got a mountain of paperwork to catch up on, and then a vacation out of town. Keep an eye on the twitter feed, and I'll definitely let you know when I'm available: http://www.twitter.com/shwood

rabidbadger brought up an excellent idea in the coin tricks thread.

I think a few sleight of hand tricks would be a great starting lession for Ustream, I'd log in and check them out!!!

why, thank you! Brian, you listening? ;)

Eh, I know you're too busy now, making new scam schools, doing shows, (and paperwork, blah) and family, and planning New stuff for Orlando, etc. But Might be a fun thing to do in the winter, maybe?

How crucial is the video submissions/chat by the audience? If you used something like Qik, You could have the main episodes via Ustream and on-the-road sessions from your phone while still maintaining text chat.

I don't know why some are saying that Stickam stretches the video. It has never done that for me. Using a widescreen video source or 4:3 ratio worked just fine.

I haven't been on Stickam for a few months though..

I've only seen Leo's Stickum show afew times but that could really be kool for you. Especially if you have afew cameras available. one for a front shot, one for side view and one for close-up of the hands... (I've only seen 3 cams on Leos but think I heard it can handle up to 6 windows).. others could be the viewers. Relying on the chatroom could get crazy with 300 people blitzing you w/ questions and comments. Do you speed read too? LOL

BTW Brian... has anyone "called you out" to shave your head for charity like Gary Vaynerchuk and Kevin Rose have? DONT DO IT!

I still like the "found object" type of magic, as it seems to relay a sense of magic more than "showing up with a deck of cards."

Love card tricks, but like a Chef that works with whatever you have, its a bit more impressive.

Still need to pick a forum... I'd love to do a "call-in" style webcam show, where people cam in from home to show me what they're working on and get advice... any way we could do that?

minton
08-04-2008, 08:53 PM
I have no cam, but I would like to watch the lessons and see what I can pick up.

I think just a practical bar magic demo would be nice, here are things you can do with a coaster, a salt shaker, some ice cubes, straws, and the like.

Kind of a MacGyver meets bar magic!!!

I've seen Stickam do this on live TV, where they pick out one person from 6 video cams and have that person ask a question through a phone line. I'm not sure if that's an inherent feature or just a gimmick the TV show was able to pull off.

I'll look into this tonight when the show comes on (I don't want to be "ATTACK"ed if I give the name of the show away, lol).

Successful test! thanks for everyone who popped in. and if you missed it, it's only because you're not following me on twitter: twitter.com/shwood

As for tomorrow's shindig, If you don't have a cam, grab one along with the props you'll need to show me your progress. (matches, shot glasses, quarters, etc.) I want to see some demos from you guys to offer critiques!

Don't know how much of an agenda we'll have, so count on it being largely influenced by viewer questions.

Can't wait to see you guys!
