i have something call aoltbserver.exe running on my computer and my spyware programs aren't getting it spybot - search and destroy and ad-aware

Since you already know the name of the file, just do a windows explorer search for it's location and delete it while in safe mode.

I assume your using windows.

I usually google search processes and get info on if it is safe or what, so that's your best bet.

Nuke and pave. It's the only way to be sure.

Unless you have some sort of AOL toolbar, nowt to worry, but using HiJackThis or rebooting in safe mode will and deleting the file will get rid of it with out having to start all over again.
But you can never be sure that its fully gone.

Try Comodo BOClean (http://www.comodo.com/boclean/boclean.html), it's free and awesome. It scans in real time what's loaded into the memory and will delete/kill anything it detects. So in most cases it can keep items from even installing.
