I might go in a few weeks, just because of Dan and Jeff, but I see myself ending up on Alex's side of the bed though.

I have to say it is exactly as it was intended, a live action anime. and they pulled it off fantastically. I really enjoyed the movie, and would recommend that people see it if only for the theatrical qualities that are, at least for me, completely unique and never before seen.

the story is simple enough, and quite predictable. but the sequences are fantastic. don't go thinking this is going to be emmy worthy or some sort of fantastic drama for adults, because it isnt. it should be gone to with the fact that it is a live action anime, and if you aren't the type of person that enjoys 1970s animes then maybe you wouldn't enjoy this movie.

Expect it to be a live action cartoon, then you will love it.
The plot, jokes, transition, characters...you may find it old school, weird or even stupid, but that's what a 70s (or 60s?) cartoon was. It's their intention to make a film like this.

I agree with what Alex said but when I told myself I'm watching a visually stunning live action old school cartoon, I enjoyed it very much.

Watched in IMAX...mind blowing visuals. Infact I think it may have been a little too much where I just couldnt follow the action. I really liked all the characters - Spritle and Chim Chim werent as annoying as I expected them to be. The story did get a little boring in the middle, but the whole ending was great.

I pretty much agree with Alex. I did enjoy most of it after the first half hour or so... out of like 2 hours or something. It could've been much better, but some of the action was pretty cool. I just felt kind of bored during the beginning of the movie. I love movies with car scenes, but this didn't give me any feeling. Actually, if they had done it more like the pod racing from Phantom Menace with some great music it would've been awesome. I recommend seeing it on a big screen, but I wouldn't pay full price admission.

I really liked it. To me it succeeded as a live action cartoon from the 60s/70s era. I enjoyed the race scenes and the effects.

I guessing people will like it or hate it with no middle ground here.

I was so afraid when alex said he didnt like it, cus I frickin loved speed racer. Every scene that was supposed to be hokey or cheesy just didnt feel like one to me and the races were phenomenal. Anyways go dan/jeff!
Don't pay attention the RT% because I read the reviews and i think a lot of people are just put off by the 1 or 2 cheesy lines and refuse to buy into the rest of the movie. Just give it a try.

I really loved this movie. It was an experience that I'd never had before. It is one of the strongest films visually, the action sequences were staged in a unique way that holds true to the cartoon and the plot was more interesting than I thought it would be. I thought the actors really captured the feel of the characters, and the family's love for each other felt genuine. I hope this is one of those films that gains respect upon DVD release.

I was also very happy to hear Jeff liked the two Matrix sequels. I don't think they are without problems, but the hatred directed to those two films seems largely unwarranted to me.

When Alex said he didn't like it, I got kind of sad and afraid for a moment because I REALLY loved this film. I'm glad Jeff and Dan enjoyed it though. The movie was just amazing. I can't understand someone thinking the movie was boring. What a shame.

I don't know where Alex was coming from with his review of Speed Racer. I am not in any way a fan of the TV cartoon (I found it annoying), and I hate car racing (what's the point). That being said I was intrigued by the look of the movie and went. I found it completely visually engrossing and ground breaking.
It was so new that I think traditional media reviewers are at a loss to understand it and describe it so they pan it instead. Plus Alex was the spirit and image of Spritle and I was struck by this while viewing the movie.

i loved it. admittedly ive been psyched to see this for weeks now and that may skew my opinion a little bit, but there were some very cool nods to the original show and some things that only adults would get. and it was super bright in a world that has grown to adore the gritty and dark. not that theres anything wrong with that, i love me some sin city but this was a nice change of pace. this translated a cartoon so well and literally into a movie so i loved it.

Hate to disagree with the majority, but I'm with Alex on this one. I took my two daughters last weekend (all three of us were really looking forward to it) and nobody was terribly happy with it. My eleven year old summed it up with "Too much talking, not enough racing." My seven year old described it as "Racing! Boring. Racing! Boring. Racing! Boring."

I completely agree with them. I LOVED the visuals and the racing sequences (especially the rally race) and sadly couldn't care less about the things in between.

I was very wrong on this one. I just saw it and I had a lot of fun watching it.

The trailers were absolutely horrible because they made me not want to see it and made me think it was a terrible movie. The trailers didn't include any of the mature, serious content, thus eliminated the appeal to me. The story in general was heart-warming and quite a deal more emotional than I originally thought.

Big thanks to Dan and Jeff, I wouldn't have seen it if you two didn't tell me how much you loved it.

Originally, I thought Speed Racer would be really good, but then came the trailer and a 35% ranking on RT. After that, I lost all hope for the movie. I figured it'd be garbage. Then, I watched the latest TRS episode. It gave me hope and so I decided to take my two younger brothers to see it. . .

We went and saw it today, and man were Jeff and Dan right! I frickin' LOVE this movie! It was definitely a return to form for the Wachowski's (although a very different form). The movie was hyper-stylized and just plain rocked in a crazy willy wonka sort of way. I don't see how you could watch this movie and not have at least a little bit of fun. I'd love to see a sequel but based on the box office receipts, I doubt it'll happen.

The moral of the story. . . #1 Don't base movies soley on their "tomatometer" #2 Watch TRS =)
