I for one hate commercials interrupting my music, don’t mind them so much on TV or web, but don’t mess with the music.

In my opinion commercial radio has far to many commercials you drive to work here two maybe three good songs the rest is commercials and DJs.

Satellite Radio you would here from five to seven songs and probably the DJ once.

Satellite Radio has commercials as well. Or at least some of it does because they weren't making enough money from the subscriptions.

Not all channels on satellite radio have commercials. On XM, the music stations don't have any commercials. However, the comedy and sports channels do have commercials.

Personally, I am loving my satellite radio and wouldn't ever go back to standard radio.

They can take my satellite radio when they pry it from my cold dead fingers.

I have XM, and they don't have commercials on the music channels. There may be some times of DJ banter, but that rarely lasts over 15 seconds or so (unless its an interview with a musician or something of that nature).

Thats not why there are ads on some channels...

On talk channels, there are ads beacuse the hosts need breaks, and instaed of having dead air, they make money.

Some XM channels are programed by other companies. Clear Channel has half a dozzen or so on XM. XM does not program them, they have no control over them. Clear Channel makes no money from the subscriptions, and actually pays to be on the service if i remember correctly. they haveto sell ad space to stay profitable. similer situations exist on the little doggy company.

Sports channels have ads for the the same reasons as both of the above. XM must carry the supplier broadcast as is. That broadcast has both national and local ad breaks in it, as the supplied content is made for terestrial. The national ads must be played, and instead of playing dead air while the local break happens, they play spots for advertisers and other channels on the network.

Finaly, theres opie and anthony. Their lil pogram is broadcast on both terestrial and sat. Now CBS and XM couldnt get along enough to agree on one studio to broadcast from, so they haveto take a 15 minute walk from CBS's 7th Ave. studio to XM's West 57th ST. Studio every day in the middle of their show. They wont go to dead air, and broadcasting the walk-over was a pain. so they sell ads for it.

All in all, the total ads sold by either satcaster directly, in totality for their programing, (about 150 channels each) has the same ad time as a typical top 40 in a dismel market (like #52 Buffalo NY) has EVERY DAY!
