Is any one else playing this game? Sure it's simple gameplay, and doesn't seem to be a very deep game on the surface. But, as you advance and the more abilities you unlock, the game really starts getting addictive. I'm stuck on stupid now.

I know the Rev3 forums don't have a search feature, but there have been other threads about LostWinds and WiiWare in general.

Anyhow, I have played it for about an hour and a half so far, and I like it a lot. I want a sequel, but I don't want to pay for it 5 times - may as well just release it on disc if they're gonna do that...

Anyhow, I'm getting my wish, as Jeff said that a review of LostWinds is happening next week! Sweet.

Dolson, did you notice a sequel has already been announced?

Yup, I registered for the notifications on their site too.

That's what makes me a bit hesitant about it though.. It is a great game, but if they just took a regular Wii game, broke it into five chunks, and are charging $10 per fifth, I don't like the idea at all. I'd rather own my games so that I can lend them, trade them, sell them, whatever I want... Small games for $10 is fine, but I don't like the episodic gaming garbage.

I understand there are those who do, but I am not one of them.

That said, this game was great. I'll buy the sequel, and if it also ends with "to be continued" I'm going to consider very carefully.

I wholeheartedly agree. I hope it doesn't go that route cause it'll open the flood gates to fractionated games. But on the other hand I would love a sequel and will buy it when it comes out. Another thing to consider is that Nintendo limits WiiWare games to be 43 megabytes max which sucks for adventure games like this.

It's awesome however I admit to getting stuck on this one part but I will figure out.
Took a break from it since Mario Kart came in the mail today.

You can use the vortex power to charge item, which then have the power to smash through certain obstacles. Trick is, you have to charge them in the air.

I'm also not a fan of fractioned games, but who says we'd even get a game like LostWinds for full retail? There seem to be more good ideas for Wii games that aren't getting released than the ones that are. WiiWare will hopefully be an outlet for those great ideas that get no support from publishers.

In regards to episodic games and pricing, surely anyone who disagrees with the price per amount of gaming (in hours) that you get with Lost Winds should boycott the sequel, otherwise you're confirming to the developer that they've chosen the right price point for their game.

Obviously you could never tell with the first part unless reviews tell you how much bang for your buck you're getting, but assuming sequels will be of equal length you'd be mad to pony up for it unless you were happy with what you were getting for the money.

Actually, $10 for a 3-hour game is fine. But if it gets to be $30 for three 3-hour games, then it should have probably been put onto a retail disc and sold for $30... My reasons for disliking episodic games (ie: one bigger game, broken into smaller, downloadable pieces) has nothing to do with the price or the length, but simply that episodic gaming is different than downloadable games should be.

If Nintendo released Super Mario Galaxy (assume for a second that size was no issue) broken into five downloadable parts for $10 each, would that have been a good thing? No, certainly not to me. I'd rather have it on a disc, one cohesive package. If I buy a downloadable game, I don't care if it lasts me only one hour - it should be completable, and self-contained. Proper sequels are fine, as games are self-contained and completable.

What if they decide that the game and story of LostWinds should span eight episodes, each at $10? Then you have spent $80 for one single game, broken into eight parts, which you can't fit entirely on one Wii to begin with. And once you finish it, you can't re-sell it, lend it to a friend, trade it with someone... That's my point. Nothing to do with the length to price ratio.

EDIT: I will say that I probably wouldn't have a problem with it if they state up-front that I was downloading "episode 1 of 4" or at least "episode 1" clearly like that, so that I know "ok, this game isn't going to end.." I probably would just wait and see how many episodes it spans, rather than buy immediately, but at least I would know I'm getting a game that doesn't end.

Damn I am sruck in this vortex part...I keep restarting from my last save and every time I find a way to one side it traps me in another with nothing to break the barriers..WTF?

I seriously can't go anywhere.

edit: I got it..you can use fruit to smash things also hehe and the crabs hehe

Game looks hard. Ive always not liked how in accurate the wiimote feels. Ive heard that some HD tv's dont work well with the wii and i dont know if im one of those or if im used to perfect mouse accuracy or what, but even playing zelda i just couldnt get used to it. That level where your on horseback shooting the birds was ... for the birds.. to me.

Zelda was a launch game that is really a gamecube game with Wii controls tacked on last second...they were a bit janky also just never let sunlight get in the sensor or sit to close since it does detect how far and away you are.

But go play RE4 or MP3 or anything since pretty much and the accuracy is ace and no it's does not matter what TV you use.

And Lost winds can be challenging at times but that is good as the game makes you think and test your skills...much better than have your hand held and just press a couple buttons.

Glancing through...it kinda sounds like the reviewer was expecting it to be like Okami, and rated it partially based on that.
