View Full Version : Favorite cartoons you watched as a youngling (nostalgic thread)

So I'm a bit nostalgic.

I should be studying for a final exam, but the nostalgia just kicked in and I started to remember lots of things I did/liked such as cartoons.

I thought about you guys/gals on the TRS forums and thought to make this thread.

So I'll start myself.

My favorite full-length cartoon is probably An American Tail.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRjb8sMjYu8&feature=related

This film came out in 86, I was born in 87.
I basically grew up with this film(till I started to like other things) and this specific song tears me up because of the memories.

I also watched lots of the warner toons all night long, even some anime like Saint Seya, Samurai Pizza Cats, and of course Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Oh, the old superman (and movies) toons is worth a mention.
I was a huge superman fan. I dressed up as superman as a young kid, the whooole outfit, and ran around the streets pretending to be superman (until the day a dude on a bicycle ran over me cause I didn't want to move, you know, since I was made of steel)

what about you population TRS?

Always been a fan of Bugs Bunny and all of the Looney Tunes. TMNT, Garfield and Friends, Ghostbusters , Widget The World Watcher, Aladdin (the show and movies) Marsipulami, David The Gnome all of the Nintendo shows (Super Show, Mario 3, Mario World, Captain N, Zelda) And I could keep going for a while.... But my all time favorite was Tiny Toon Adventures. Best cartoon ever.

I was a Saturday morning cartoon addict.... yeah I was one of those kids who woke up at the crack of dawn on Saturdays just to catch the cartoons. I don't think I ever grew out of it either, just moved on to anime instead.

but the top of my favorites were definitely all the superhero cartoons. heck they got me into comics so yeah the X-Men animated series, Batman, Spider-man, Fantastic Four, WildC.A.T.S...

Then you had your video game cartoons.. Sonic the Hedgehog, Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Bros. (was partially live action?), Mortal Kombat..

Some others that I loved to watch Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, the Little Bits, TMNT, Dragon Ball Z, Darkwing Duck, Rescue Rangers...

as for favorite animated films, aside from freaking everything Disney, I'd have to say: Secret of Nimh, the Last Unicorn, the Brave Little Toaster, and All Dogs Go to Heaven...

good god, I was a sad sad child...

I remember loving C.O.P.S., I think it was called (and how could you NOT? A dude with guns in his chest??? SWEET.). GI Joe was a treat, as I didn't see it on too often. Transformers too. Oh, I did love He-Man too.

I also really loved WWF wrestling. I still have fond memories of watching the first few Wrestlemanias with my brother and dad.

As a kid, I religiously watched Monty's Travelling Reptile Show. I used to feel sick to my stomach because I'd never get to be Monty. I also used to call it Monty Python, which, I found out when I got a few years older, was something completely different........

EDIT: animated movie, I think it was called The Last Unicorn... Something about it that I liked. I'll have to find it and watch it again, I guess.

I was never a big fan of cartoons. My dad however was. He's 51 now and watches Tarzan on Disney Channel, Tom and Jerry on cartoon networks. Which is kind of cool.

I grew up watching Dexters laboratory, Cow and Chicken (I still love that show).

POWER RANGERS!

I have a new-grown interest in Scooby Doo =)

I remember when I was little this cartoon was on after school, I was very young and it did not seem to be on the air for very long. I often considered trying to get a box set or something, but never did. I watched a ton of toons as a kid, but was not a die hard watcher by any means.

I'll have to second the Gargoyles comment. I always thought of myself as Lexington, the smart one.

What other shows have an enemy named Macbeth and an awesome trickster named Puck? That's high class.

Also, I just mentioned this in another thread, does any one remember ReBoot? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ReBoot It was/is the most awesome computer animated series, and in fact the first one of its kind.

maybe someone can find it. Its a really old cartoon either late 60s or early 70s. It was kind of like dino riders, but not that cartoon, I already checked. I was 99% sure it was a Hanna-Barbera cartoon, but I did not find it in their Wikipedia listings.

I dont even have a really good description other than it was a sci-fi type cartoon with dinosours. People would ride the dinosours, but they had special powers. There was a Triceratops that shot laser beams from its horns, an Ankylosaurus (had a club for a tail) , Stegosaur and a Brachiosaurus.

It was either set in the future or inner earth.

This is now driving me nuts that I can not find this cartoon ... ROFL!

In Response to gargoyle's:

I owned the Gargoyle's movie on VHS and at the end of the movie it had a thing that was meant to be watched while the accompanying board game was played. It had Eliza (Was that her name? :X) and the evil guy said things like "Stop! The player who just spun must blah blah blah." The movie was just the first few episodes edited into a movie format (It was about 90 minutes or so I think). I still have the VHS and board game, but it is in the garage.

I will say that I watched it again, maybe, two years ago and thought it was still very awesome. I'm gonna have to find a DVD somewhere I think now >:]

Wow, so like, most of the stuff I watched on nick was live action...

Never saw wonder years. Before my time.
I was too young to understand what You Can't Do That On Television was. It just appeared to be pretty colors.

"What Would You Do?" was a sort of variety show hosted by Marc Summers. They had games, prizes and gave kids the chance to get revenge on their parents. Throughout the show kids would earn tokens that they could then put into the secret wall at the end for prizes. The wall had something like 13 or so doors and some would have really good prizes while others would nail you with a pie. And oh yeah, pies were a BIG part of that show. :D

A few of my favorite cartoons when i was young, let me think (these cartoons are not mentioned in any particular order)

http://www.lupinencyclopedia.com/avrc/images/series/castMacross.jpg
Macross/Robotech was a series i used to rent (or my mom did for me but whatever).

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/4862/ulyssesbu5.jpg
Ulysees 31 was another series we used to rent and watch, awesome series (one of the reasons along with Macross among others why i'm into anime)

Then there were the usual suspects like Transformers, Thundercats, M.A.S.K. and so on (i also liked GI Joe but i read the comics i didn't watch the cartoon)
