We call it non-sequitor humour. Oddball sounds more like Mel Brooks.

Don't think i could pick just one, but none the less you're also missing political satire a la lewis black on your list.

Question.
I have a...ummm...friend named ...uhhh... Margaret Cho... and I was just wondering if I, I meant if she, would end up under Racist or Not Funny?

I have yet to see a stand up comedian that I find funny. I'd rather watch a funny movie or read a book (or listen to Geekdrome) to get my laughs.

Abortions for some, tiny American flags for others.

Also, this poll is lame, no political satire(we need to make room for those like Lewis Black, Bill Maher, or David Cross), satire in general (stella, zach galiafinakis, etc.) or just intelligent/geek humor like Patton Oswalt? Duuuuuuude, c'mon.
Also, Mitch Hedberg wasn't ****ing oddball humor. he was in the non-sequitor crowd and was the modernized version of Stephen Wright, another non-sequitor genius.
So let's say for me "alternative" comedy is my favorite lately. I saw Michael Showalter in SF a few months ago and it was priceless.
Hit up the UCB theatre for some great improv sketch comedy sat and sun for ASSSSCAT, if you live in l.a. or new york. THAT'S the shit right there.
Solid stand up, though, Louis CK. Hilarious. One of the best of recent times, too bad he had to ruin all his greatest bits with his shitty show.

I like Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis and David Cross a lot.
Come on everyone needs to admit it British comedy is where its at. Monty Python's flying circus is hands down the funiest sketch comedy out there.
John Cleese for President 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You don't have everyone's favorite style there: silly. My favorites are Mike Birbiglia, Pablo Francisco and Brian Regan. They're so silly but all their stuff is so relatable.

What about angry/social commentary/controversial comedy like say, Bill Hicks, Sam Kinison, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, and to a lesser extent, Lewis Black?
Lame poll. Go watch more Blue Collar Comedy, Gallager, and Carrot Top. Blah

Well I must say, they are all funny but I would rather laugh at something like Diggnation or Geekdrome. Dont really know why but just something I feel.

I llike a litle bit of each, but most of the comics you mentioned I hate, for example Carlos mencia. A few of my favorites are Bill Hicks, Dave Chappelle, Pablo Francisco, and the teenage corresspondent for the daily show (forgot his name).

She kind of funny when she's not doing stupid hack voices, e.g. her mother and gay stereotypes.
Better examples would've helped this poll...Sarah Silverman(racial), Dave Attell(oddball). And no mention of Stephen Lynch? BOOOO!

Kathy Griffin's funny now. When did that happen? Bravo's got some sort of magic touch. They've managed to make sewing interesting and a red headed ***** with an annoying voice funny.

Bobcat Goldthwait in the 80s = BOO
Bobcat Goldthwait now with a semi normal voice = genius
He can tell some of the greatest stories like how he got his 13 year old daughter to practice lines from "Blow" with him. Funniest stuff I had heard in a long time.

Its always between oddball and racial for me. But, im sorry, mencia could lick my balls. He is unfunny and reminds me of a spanish chris rock, in the annoying, been said before, sense. Bill Hicks, theres a funny racial guy.
Oddball favs (off the top of my head) are gaffigan, demetri martin, and hedberg (i always thought of him as oddball becuase he doesnt reference drugs in his bits....just very few times...but KOALA INFESTATIONS!)

Everyone has forgotten my personal fav Eddie Izzard. Executive transvestites FTW! Hedburg was funny sometimes except for the shows where he was obviously really REALLY high and then he just didn't make much sense.
Not a fan of "angry" comedians like Kinison or in some cases Bill Hicks. It starts to be less comedy and more what's wrong with the world. I think it takes a much sharper mind to tell the same tale without getting in your face. Or in the case of my two examples... not be dead.

haha...but seriously, excellent point. It gets irritating when Bill just starts the screaming and insulting. And all his different "sucker of satan's cock" bits are annoying too. As for hedberg....he was always really high :p

Your missing Carrottop on the list.....sigh
I'm against picketing, but I don't know how to show it.
I love blackjack. But I'm not addicted to gambling. I'm addicted to sitting in a semi circle
A lot of people don't know it, but onions make me sad
I don't wear a watch because I want my arms to weigh the same.
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long
I like rice. Rice is great when you're hungry and you want 2,000 of something.
-A few Mitch jokes I liked. RIP man.

I selected Oddball, since it seemed like the most "miscellaneous" one, but yeah... Carlin is KING. Hicks, Bruce, Kinison, RIP.. they're all missed. I also like Denis Leary, Dennis Miller, Sarah Silverman, Lewis Black.
Classics like Richard Pryor and Redd Fox, as well.
yeah, this whole thread was ill thought out, if I were the guy I would've added more stuff and better comics and I at least would've put NY alternative comedy (like all the stella guys, variety shac, mike birbiglia, zach galiafinakis, etc.). Also, Gaffigan as "oddball"...eh. Comedy is much more broad than mere categories cause a lot of comics are a combination and can bleed over each other like vampire lesbians. Plus comedy is subjective to sense of humor. awwww, well!
