Back in March, we launched the new YouTube APIs and Tools, with the goal of making YouTube an open video services platform and available for use by any website, desktop application, or consumer device. Today, we are announcing a new partnership that takes advantage of the YouTube APIs in a new and interesting way.

We are happy to announce that PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3TM) has integrated the YouTube APIs to allow game developers to create games that enable direct upload of in-game video captures to YouTube. This YouTube upload functionality can be incorporated not only into new PS3 game titles, but also existing PS3 titles that have the ability to receive network updates. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has added YouTube functionality to Mainichi Issho, a popular game with PS3 users in Japan. Gamers will now be able to upload their in-game video captures to YouTube. We're excited at the opportunity this presents and look forward to more and more games to be enhanced with YouTube.

The YouTube APIs are available to all developers and we hope that game developers everywhere will use the YouTube APIs to make video an integral part of their game experience. Whether it's showing off that fantastic touchdown pass, car slide, or karaoke sing-along, we hope that more user-generated content from games will make their way to YouTube and connect with the gamer communities.

Let the games begin!

Awesome news for PS3 owners.

That is freaking awesome!

I have a request.. I saw you post in a few other places like this, but you don't usually put the source links. Do you think you could? Just makes it easier to pass info on to other people who aren't on the forums.. Sure, I could link people here, but a forum post isn't exactly a "source" if you know what I mean.

Nintendo has announced they will be refunding 100% of Wii purchases, because they have made too much money and they want people to buy games for their systems. The refunds will come in the form of EB Games vouchers, good for the full retail value of a Wii system towards the purchase of Wii games. From here forward, Nintendo has announced a One Wii Per Child campaign, and will be donating Wii units to those without.

You get what I mean.

let me just say first that i don't mean to be a troll; i have a PS3 and i think it's awesome.

but for chrissake, how is anyone supposed to get excited about this? another sony feature that would be amazing IF we EVER get it.

the list of features "in the works" or "possible" is long and distinguished ("like my johnson" - Top Gun) but will probably result only in delays and frustration.

why can't the guys screwing around with the youtube API work on in-game XMB, home or any of the other stuff and get it finished first?

sorry, i never post like this. i'm just a sick of anticipating greatness and getting press releases.

This is really cool. Now I just wish both the PS3 and 360 had this feature. This feature might sway me towards the PS3 version of games.

I understand you, and I'm sure you've been waiting a lot longer than me (I only got my PS3 in January, so I haven't really got much to complain about, as I've been waiting only 5 months). However, if I understood correctly, this game was updated today in Japan (I checked the store with my account, and there is an addon there) so it's real right now.

So, essentially, anyone (even people like me who have never messed with it) would be able to do captures and/or screenshots w/o hooking up extra gear? That's pretty effing cool!

This may lead to a feature that Sony mentioned as being a possibility for the PSP. The following quote comes from a list of possible features for the PSP, listed in an official Sony PSP survey.

"Record console gameplay video for display on the device (showing off your high scores or 'cool moves' [sic] to friends)"

I guess you could be able to have captures on your PS3, as well as uploaded copies? I suppose it's a possibility.

I'll try and remember in future Dolson, just for you.

This will make it so much more fun playing with other TRS forum members and share what we're doing. Can't wait till this gets put into some games I have. Hope it's fast. I know how inertianinja feels. There is a lot of talk, but not much results since I've ever gotten my PS3. In reality, the only awesome upgrade I can remember getting is the video codec support. Otherwise, there's just a lot of advertisement for things that aren't actually there!
