Hey phratboy,
To get you started in the right direction, its Linux, not Lenox, and you will probably want to check out http://www.ubuntu.com for your first install.

Agreed.
And not 100% sure what you mean by icon based, but the interface is different but not hugely dissimilar to windows or mac. You rarely have to use command line anymore if you dont want to.
If I were you, I'd research Linux and Ubuntu, install it, then hit these forums with any questions related to your experience. Fastest way to learn is to do.
have fun and BACK UP WINDOWS before installing, so if you screw something up you dont lose all your files. trust me, it's happened twice to me, and it was so nice to have all my important files tucked away on another hard drive.

Since you've never run Linux before, I'd recommend either using a live cd or installing Wubi. That way you won't have to repartition your drive and you won't risk damaging your Windows install.

Wubi is definitely an awesome idea, completely forgot about it. That's actually how i did my first ubuntu "install." It's such a simple program, and makes testing ubuntu in it's full glory so easy
