I'm considering buying it for the increased resolution and potentially better control scheme. I could see this being a game I play a lot while on the road for work.

I loved the starwars and jade empire games, I actually like everything that bioware has touched, so I cant wait to get this game... too bad the online purchasing is ass and wont accept my credit cards...

I may pick up this games because of the mods and the skins but other than that then i am not sure.

well the protection isn't so bad... it just check that it is legit when you install and when you get updates... that is about as much as anyone can ask. I would rather a form of protection that included a online community, but until developers realize that is what works I will have to live with intrusive DRM in my titles.

nice the credit problem was apparently resolved and my order went through... I will not how difficult it is to deal with DRM when I finish downloading it.

I'm one of those non-xbox pc having folks. I was almost going to buy a 360 for mass effect but I came to my senses ( HAha ) and waited for the pc ver. for the better control and bioware to hammer out some issues from the console release, now if you'll excuse me I'm heading over to Fry's , Circuit city or were ever that just got a copy in Good times.

I'm gettin' it. Plus, we PC users get the "Bring Down the Sky" DLC for free, as long as we have a legal, registered copy. :)

Runs well on my MBP under boot camp. So far so good. There have been a few graphical glitches so far but nothing that ruins the experience. Also, the copy protection so far hasn't bothered me. I'm going to try running the game later without a network connection, as I'm likely to play that way while on the road or on a plane.

Also, I like the configuration assistant/wizard thing. Nicely organizes all of my settings and configs. very nice.

I wanted to get it for the 360 but I never did. So I'll either get it on 360 when it's cheaper, or get it on PC.

you can only install it 3 times and then you no longer own it. Unlike Bio-shock you do not release installations when you uninstall it. As someone who formats their machines quite often this is simply not an option. I don't want to rent this game I want to buy it. If secuROM is ever removed from the equation then I'm there. I'd even be fine with it on Steam, but alas it's EA.

that is true to a point... you still own it and they are supposed to be understanding and give more installs if necessary... I agree since I happen to be an enthusiast, nearly every piece of my pc is replaced over the span of 12 months and I reinstall windows every 6 months at the most, it is going to suck to have to call a number to legitimize our copy. but hopefully it wont be too much of a problem and they wont hassle us over this process.

Core2Duo, 2.2Ghz.. 2GB RAM, Nvidia 8600M... fairly slow cramped HD. I can run with high textures and high particle effects at 13xx X 8xx (i forget the exact rez they force me into because 1440x900 isn't an option for some reason). I haven't tried the super high texture setting. Will do so this weekend and compare my home rig vs my MBP.

Fortunately, cracks and pirated versions of the game will make it possible for people who paid for the legit copy to be able to play... It seems the game companies don't seem to understand that no matter what they do, aside from releasing a super unpopular game, will ever stop it from being pirated. The only thing they are doing is hurting the people that want to play by the rules and buy the games.

exactly, every level of game protection is flawed by the fact it is simply a stimulus and a response... when a game checks for a CD it cehcks then continues... when it checks servers, it checks then continues... these are all either easily emulated or easily removed.

the only way a game can either aviod piracy or go around piracy and still collect money is with some kind of subscription model... and if a game offered a compelling reason to pay monthly (community, updates, free content) it is a way to monetize even those that would or even haev pirated the actual game.

2 examples:

Steam games: sure they are pirated, but it is such a hassle keeping up with steam updates and just the fact that legitimately getting the game makes for such a seamless process with an XBL style community makes most player want to purchase the game, and those that don't, while are not praised, are also not worried about.

and WoW: where finding and playing on a free server is a lame enough experience that 10million people have decided that it was worth it to pay full price... sometimes more than once for a chance to play on the real servers.

anyways there is my rant

They haven't said that they will in fact give you additional installs if you do this, only that there is an avenue to petition them for additional installs. I shouldn't have to petition EA to use the software which I purchased. I own 270 games and all of them were bought new. Here's my inventory: http://www.gamespot.com/users/satori/games_table?mode=own
so to this all I say is that it is negatively impacting their sales on legitimate purchases.

No kidding...I have a fair amount, also...and barring a few I've used the 'Keep It' from Gamefly, everything else was purchased new (although, sometimes through bargain bins and third parties). As others have stated, things like this only really affect those who purchase things legitimately.

I would, but I hate playing games on my computer, because it just seems like everything crashes on me. Which is disturbing to me, because I kind of GOT this computer to be able to play games on it, but then every time I do crash crash crash. It's disheartening. I can't even play Overlord, and I'd really really like to... FEAR crashed right at the end for no reason, I had to watch the ending on YouTube... you know? So... I wish I could play it, but I doubt I'd be able to. Not because of lack of hardware, just off the instinct that it will undoubtedly crash.

so I beat this... I didnt check the number of hours but I would say under 30.
I didnt do all the secondaries because they got old, but I really loved this game.
the game play was great, being able to run and gun is a must, I cant imagine how this played on the xbox.
the "love" scene is actually kind of funny and never did I feel that my character wanted to actually partake in it.
oh, and the ending was fantastic.

I had to buy a new processor (AMD 64X2 6400 3.21Ghz) and now the game run at full detail, full speed and I couldn't be happier, but haven't had much time to play thought still great game. wonder if ppl are going to post pics of what their in-game avatar if they haven't all ready?

If a NoCD crack comes out I'm in, but otherwise I'm not down with SecuROM.

Yes I do legally purchase my games, I just hate using the disc to play them, so I crack legally registered games [like my CoD4 install] to play without the disc.

securom only runs when you install, not when you open the game. it already doesnt require the cd to be in the drive.

well there ya go. When I have some money I'll have to pick it up. I've just been burned by SecuROM too much to mess with it anymore.

I agree, i wouldnt have bought it if it were in the old shape of things have to "re-up" every ten days.

it's a good thing they changed that to a more gamer friendly security... not that any of it would have helped, it is already being pirated.
