XPS M1530 vista no sound promblem

ok my friend has a DELL XPS M1530 laptop and had to reformat with vista, and now he has no sound at all. We have done windows updates and have went threw it and everything looks like it should be working, but still no audio. if anyone could help it would be awesome... reformating again is a option but we dont really want to go threw the trouble again. Thanks for the help. the sound card in it is a sigmatel high definition audio

You should be able to go to the dell site and dl the drivers. There should be a tag on the back of the machine with the service number that you can type into support section of dell and it will take you directly to the downloads for your machine.

thanks for the help but we all ready have got the service tag and got all the newest drivers and still no luck

The stupid question has to be asked, did someone accidently hit the button to mute audio?

Now, if that doesn't help... What's the issue? Is it showing in the device manager? If so, is it set as the default audio device? Really, we need some more info.

I'll throw some things out there... Did you install the chipset before the audio driver (which would be good)? Did you install a modem before the audio driver (which would be bad)? And isn't there a recovery partition on the drive? Why don't you just reimage using that? It should only take 7-10 minutes, and all drivers will be installed for you.

mute wasnt on... we thought that may have been it after about 30 mins but it wasnt... in device manager it showed up as everything was fine and working... and it was set to the default device... we didnt really want to do the recovery but after we did it fixed it so its all good now... Thanks for the help guys
