View Full Version : Stuck Pixel, is there a real fix?

So I saved my money very patiently and finally had enough to get me a decent widescreen monitor. It arrived on time, I'm happy.

But yesterday I spotted ONE red unchanging pixel. I looked up fixes for stuck pixels (not dead ones) and all ranged from massaging it to putting a flashing image on it.

None of these fixed the stuck pixel. Now, has anyone ever fixed a stuck pixel?

I have a green pixel on my laptop. Still haven't found a way to get rid of it. Every place I look said it was a stuck pixel. But I figure it is a dead one and have not really noticed it much. I learned to live with it. Anyone with an idea how to fix would be cool.

Try the program I attached. I've kept it on my thumbdrive forever. Always been curious if it works or not.

Click on START and you will see a small block appear on the top left area of your monitor. Move it over the stuck pixel. Report back.

Thanks Secret Steve Crumbles, but I tried a similar program yesterday, to no avail. I'm wondering if I Newegg accepts exchanges for ONE stuck pixel. I have 25 days and counting.

Acer's policy is 4 or more. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense, I can tolerate ONE stuck pixel. But four, that's a lot, I just hope by the time I get four, if I do, my warranty hasn't expired.

Do newegg have a 30day return policy with a receipt? Just return the thing.

Exchange it if it's bothering you. Acer probably chose 4 pixels because that's what the average consumer can tolerate and you're not the average consumer if you can spot 1 stuck pixel.

Say you're a designer and that you cannot afford any dead pixels.

Or, simply do something to "compromise the functionality" of the monitor.
We know you've thought about it.

Since you save every penny, take that into consideration, please.

Good luck!

Yes, good advice. Lie!

Kept the Bush administration in office for 8 years.

Helped me through rough times in life.

But new egg just send the crap back to the manufacturer and gets a refund.

And the lesson here? The amount you saved buying a monitor (sight unseen) has just been blown on the shipping costs back to Newegg. Somethings are better bought at a local B&M store so that you can check it out before leaving the store.

All good advice, thanks. In the end I don't want to pay to ship it back, and I don't want to wait for 1 more week.

But that is the price we pay for convinience. This Acer monitor is not crap btw, I'm very happy with it, save the ONE stuck pixel. It's on the really top part, I guess if you're gonna have a stuck pixel, it might as well be there.

Still, does anyone know how I can attempt the pixel? Or it's just the couple of fixes I've read?

How is this any different unless you are suggesting to unpack the box and ask them to hook it up somewhere before you buy it? I don't see a store letting either of those really happen.

I don't see a store letting either of those really happen.Someplaces do let you hook it up first ... and despite tax there is no shipping charge, and far more generous return policies.

FWIW - I bought 2 Viewsonic panels 2 years ago and had them hook each up to a computer. I rejected the second one because it had dead pixels, the third because it had a "water spot" type discolouration, and bought the forth one. That was a Office Depot - you just need to ask.

I would never want to go buy something at a store and trust it was new when the box was all f'd up. Seems like something most stores are going to give you the finger on. However, I guess it can't hurt to ask.

The fact one had that funky waterstain effect on it was a genuine issue. The one with the dead pixel - they were going to send it back to the manufacturer as a return, so it could be refurbed probably.

As a consumer I wanted what I was buying. 2 LCDs that were fully functional.

If you don't ask, you wont know. The trick is to not do this on a Saturday morning. I went in early afternoon mid week when it was quiet.

Hey, I'm all for consumer rights and customer service. Glad to know that Office Depot is too. You're right though, they should just defect them back to the manufacturer if there is a legit problem. It would concern me that some companies wouldn't agree with you that there was an issue and try to just sell it again.

My lady like the pears that they sell at Harry & David's, a store is near us, she insists on opening each box she buys before walking to the register. The clerks are happy to cut the tape holding the boxes together so she can inspect the merchandise.
