I have an animated gif that I would like to change a color but heres the slightly hard part I don't want to just make it flat (I want to keep the tones and shading)

oh and I'm a bit of a PS n00b
I found ep 84 but I can't seem to get it quite right and I want all the frams to have the same change

this is the pic http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff10/Ford_Dude/hood.gif
and I want to replace the hood color with a dark green

here's an atempt I think I did it poorly

I have *very* limited experience with animated GIFs so this might make no sense or be impossible...

Couldn't you create a new layer in P'shop with just the hood, colored the way you like it, and keep it on top when recompiling (or whatever you call it) the GIF?

PS makes each frame a layer although there are some odd ways that transparent sections that overlap non-transparent go to gather in animation

I'm not sure

Okay...gave it a quick try.

Pulled out the frames. Selected and recolored the hood, making it its own layer on top.

Needs tweaking but it works in principle, I think.

thats good (and better shade of green)

my PS skills really stink I tried to select just the hood but was never happy with my selection

I dunno. I think you did okay on that.

I picked a green I liked. Did a 'hue/saturation' (with colorize checked) on the whole frame to get the hood a color I liked. Then I used quickmask to get the hood selected and deleted the rest of it.

Oh, and I had to go in and fill in some transparent areas in it.
