So I got my Wii today. Me and a group of friends camped out at a Wal Mart for 8 hours and all got Wii's at Midnight, then all went to the same house to open our systems in unison and have a Partwii (yes, we called it that and yes we are dorks).

We had about 10 people there with 5 Wii's spread amongst us, 7 controllers, and 3 tv's to play on. It was awesome.

So....first impressions. The controller feels really natural in the hands. After putting batteries in the Wii-mote is just the right weight while the nunchuck feels a bit light but not too bad. We had a little bit of trouble getting the Wii to recognize our four controllers but after we got it set up they proved to be really responsive and easy to use. You get a slight rumble while scrolling over buttons in the menu which feels really nice.

We quickly created a Mii, which wasn't anything special, and jumped into Wii Sports. This game is a blast. Super simple but everyone was all smiles, pure fun. We cleared out a space in the living room and everyone stood and got into it which helped. It probably won't be near as fun if you are sitting on your couch with no energy.

Tennis and bowling were favorites. Boxing seemed a bit unresponsive but was still fun.

We then played Red Steel. I thought the controls were pretty easy to pick up on but others were having major problems so it definitely isn't a pick up and play kind of thing. The sword fighting was a disappointment. It seemed no matter what we did with our hands the sword did the same slash. I can't say that I'd recommend it to buy after playing it.

After that was Rayman, which turned out to be the star of the show. The mini games are really fun and varied and its a perfect party game. The graphics were also the nicest out of the games we played.

Finally we played through the beginning of Zelda. It's hard to say too much about it since we played so little. I'll just say it controls nicely and definitely feels like Zelda. Graphics weren't too impressive though.

Actually, the graphics on all four games were worse than a lot of Gamecube games. I expect they'll surpass Gamecube in time but this initial batch won't blow you away visually.

On the other hand, this is the most fun I've had playing games in a long time.

People keep forgetting that Zelda is nothing more than a gamecube game that uses the Wii-mote, in time they'll get some really nice looking games on this system. Its a problem that'll plauge launch titles forever.

PS. Most Wii games look way better than Gundam on the PS3 and several half assed 360 titles that have been around for the past year.

Bowling ****ing rules. I was watching the guys on Gamespot play it and they sucked so I was assuming it was the just a lousey game... nay my friends... nay

It's totally like real bowling, only I'm better at it. I haven't bowled a 175 since we were using bumpers and that was on my first try. SO MUCH FUN!

Is it true it only sold like 150.000 units?

xxxthundercatxxx
11-19-2006, 11:41 AM
That's the PS3, and for either system they're selling out of everything that was shipped for the launch date but the demand is sooo much higher. If Nintendo could put a Wii in every house that wanted one this Holiday season then everyhouse would probably have one.

Its so Christmas morning for me right now. I've been up all night after waiting impatiently in-line all day with eagle eyes on would be cutters. And now I want to run into each and everyone of your bedrooms and wake you up like I would my parents at 5am so we can open presents. WAKE UP!

Remember that N64 Kid? That's pretty much me right now. This thing is so much fun I can't stand it... come on... East Coasters should have been up waiting in lines or picking up presales by now... where are you... I need to share experiences.

I waited in line for about 30 minutes. Got my Wii at midnight. Went home. HAD TO GO TO BED. I had to be here at work at 5am... and tonight I go to see Casino Royale... so maybe I will get some quality time in on Monday...

Yeah, we went and saw Casino Royale before jumping in line for the Wii. The movie was awesome and the Wii is fantastic.

Pretty good day overall.

And I knew the graphics weren't going to be great, I was just confirming for people who thought otherwise. However, they are a bit worse than even I was expecting.

I'm having a bit of a hard time adjusting to the motion sensors, but hopefully I'll get it down. Bowling is awesome and tennis pisses me off.

Off to play Rayman!

I asked you why on the IRC, but you only fired a "MS ONLY WANT TO MAKE MONEY" routine, but really, why is the 360 lame? And no MS bullshit, it doesn't matter who's making the console.

The 360 is a great console, and I suspect the one that will have the best online stuff.
PS3 will probably have the best gfx, and the Wii will have the most different and unique games.

just played with the wii at my cousins house (he's a nintendo fanboy and wants to convert me to the house of mario). Wii sports is fun it reminds me of when we would all get together and play Track and Field on the NES. Then there was Zelda, it was ok but not amazing as all the fanboys around me were trying to make it out to be. Over all id say its a nice lil system that if i get it i can see pulling it out for parties and holiday gatherings. It needs to have more of my type of game to replace my hunger for a 360 and what i have seen come up so far doesn't thrill me.

You guys have any idea the amount of torture it is for me to be editing the Drome while Laura plays Wii Sports a few feet behind me? I got to play some while the episode captured and I can't wait to do some Zelda tonight when it's uploading to Rev3.

And after I camped out all night Hollywood so I could bring you guys Quest for the Wii next episode... with dramatic twists!

Waited for 12+ hours at Wal-Mart, which turned out to be more fun than I expected, the guys next to my friend and I were really cool. We ended up playing a little version of Super Market Sweeps (basically a treasure hunt through out the store) competing for best times. People kept asking us if it was the line for PS3, so we got tired of saying "No, it's for the Wii......Nintendo's new video game system" and began telling them it was a sit in against paraplegics, the line for Kevin Federline's new album, Tony Stewart was coming for a book signing, tryouts for MTV's new dating show, etc.

And now, I'm just super excited to finally get to play Twilight Princess, I hadn't looked at any screen shots, videos, or read any previews since it was first announced. Needless to say, I'm hapily surprised by its amazingness.

Wait till you see the Wii.

I knew the games wouldn't be much prettier than the Gamecube games, but am I the only one who thinks some of them are actually more ugly?

Anyways, I'll join the Wii praising in a year when I'm going to buy one.

What? Nobody has made a big deal about waiting in line. All I've heard anyone here say was how much fun it was.

I'm kinda concerned now as I'm pretty much finding all of your recent posts to be equally as confusing and pointless. Maybe it's time to go see Satori for some counseling.

It seems that whenever i breakdown to buy a console the next day they open some sale with buys a console get 17 free games( ok, but maybe get 2 free games) So I'm going to hold out for a while, wait for a bunch of great games and the bug-fixes we all know are coming. It'll be tough but it will be cheaper so i'm doing it...who wants to wait in line with me in front of BestBuy in 2 months?(get the authentic experience)

I didn't realize you had to buy a network adapter to get online with the Wii. That kind of sucks and no place around here has one.

Guess I'll have to wait awhile before downloading classic games.

It might be easier just getting a new router. I don't remember how much I payed for my wireless router but it wasn't expensive. I only used it with my DS and now for my Wii.

I saw the PS3, XBox 360, and Wii all lined up together each playing a racing game and I have to say the PS3 graphics looked the best and the Wii Excite Truck graphics were pretty crappy. However graphics don't seem important considering I played Contra and Street Fighter all weekend on the 360.

I just got home, it is 4:45am my coworkers and I were playing the wii after work. We played Wii Sports, Excite Truck, and Red Steal. It was so much fun, my boss plans on grabbing the video from the cameras and sticking it up on youtube as soon as he does I'll post the link here.

I didn't get one, but hung out with my friend that did. Waited for 12+ hours? Wow. He preordered his months ago. We got to the store at midnight, we left with a Wii at 12:05. It was awesome.

Also, I totally agree that Wii sports kicked ass. But yeah, Red Steel had its issues.

Dude, you keep forgetting that a Wii is nothing more than a gamecube that uses a motion sensing remote. Seriously, graphics wise it can't touch the 360 or PS3, so it's gonna be up to the first party titles, and NOT the third party to make it good.

Okay so I get up this morning ready for day two. My remote isn't working. I've replaced the batteries, I've synched it, everything, it's not working. Every time I press a button all the lights blink a bunch of times but no action. AHHH!!!!!!!!!!

It may just be a synching problem. Sometimes it takes a while for me to get a contoller synched, and I get the blinking blue lights.

Do you only have one Wiimote, because I've had the same problem when adding a second controller. If you have one that works, go to controller setting and select reconnect, the it will give instructions on connecting all controllers.

I'm not likely to get either new console for for a while, but I'm super excited to see what they're like. So far the Wii actually seems cooler, which is surprising. I've never waited in line for anything, but this seems pretty cool:
