View Full Version : Game night?
I've been thinking about this for a bit. I posit that we get a forum game night going. Once a week everyone jumps online via their console of choice (mine: ps3) for some multiplayer fun. Sure, the pickup games are great. However, I think a dedicated night to online game with forum members might be nice.
I propose Tuesday nights at 8pm.
First game? My pick: GTA4, but then I always pick GTA4. haha

I like the idea, my problem is say with Tuesdays is that I work. I'd be late but I'm up for it, or weekends are my better nights. I got a 360, PC and Wii.

I game every night already, so I'd be up for it. It'd have to be a game I have though.
My vote is this Thursday - Battlefield Bad Company demo. :D

sounds good, but i have tried it a few times and between times people can get on, games people have and consoles it never seems to work out well.
But i guess if you just put up a night and accept some people just arent gonna make it or have the game or console or make 2 game nights to fufill everyone, that might work.
I would make a system, a calender that posts what console is up that week, what game and whatever.
Good luck, its a good idea.

This would be pretty cool; I'd be like the LAN party in the TSS days of old...
Sorry, remembering TSS made me sad for a second.
Another idea: it would be cool if we could play with them on whichever game they are reviewing for the week, if it has an online portion. Just an idea.

Hey, do they announce what game they're reviewing ahead of time, like they do movies? I never hear them mention it, and I didn't start looking for it anywhere.

I haven't seen it if they do. Perhaps thats one reason they wouldn't do it; they want to keep what they are reviewing a surprise.

This is the first thing I thought, as well.
I would be more than willing to start a Google map, or something. Everyone could just send me their info:
- console(s)
- game(s)
- availability
- time zone
I'd say the availability should initially come from those with a fairly set time and day, so I could make a repeating event. After it's pieced together, everyone could input their availability, as it changes.
I think it would be great to have 3 (or 4, if PC is wanted) overlaying maps, one for each console.
EDIT: Oops! I wrote "Google map" when I obviously meant "Google calendar." All this mentioning Google maps, when explaining BrightKite to friends, has me conditioned now.

This like Fremont Friday's from the podcast Team Fremont Live. This would be a GREAT idea. I'd say the best times to get the most people available would be on the weekend, like Friday night or Saturday night.
What TFL does is pick a game for each month, and create a topic for that month, listing all applicable gamertags, etc. They also usually have a home console game and a portable game.

A google calendar or other open format calendar would be the way to go. That way, people can overlay or import the calendar and the timezone stuff will work itself out.

Actually, I hate to sound like a Google pimp, but if we all had google accounts we could share a calendar and a spreadsheet. That way we could keep up to date on who has what.

And suddenly, with all the talk of google calenders and spreadsheets and overlays, we realize why we nerds are here in the first place :)

This sounds like a lot of fun! I'd be up for it. Friday and Saturday nights would be the best for me. I have a 360, Wii, mac, and pc. My games are limited but I'd get in where I could!

For sure, sounds good.
I play Xbox most nights anyway, but weekdays work best for me, to busy playing real life games on weekends (beer pong FTW!!).
I mostly, actually only play Orange Box, but I have GTAIV so i would be willing to try that out. Its just that... Orange Box is so awesome!

Well, I wonder...how many people, interested in doing a community calendar, have a gmail account already? If not, how many might be willing to go that way?
The idea was passed back and forth (for a brief second), between myself and another forum member, of maybe doing a quick, easy, one-page type website to wrap around the calendar, if the idea seems well-received. I can imagine having a comment section would come in pretty handy. Going with the Google idea, wouldn't everyone's name, who posted a comment, end up being links to contact them (like the forums here)? Another effect that would make communicating easier.
yes! google calendar ftw! i'll try and get some crappy googlepages page up to kind of centralize all the information and where to send the requests, etc etc.
it should be up by tonight. i'll set up a generic gmail account for updates and such. so let's get on it kids!
email's set. :D
NOSPAMtotallyradgamenight@gmail.comNOSPAM
send your usernames, available days, games, systems, etc there. i'll get started on figuring when everyone interested is available.
so i've received a couple of responses from people. (dolson! aerodash! jae!)
send me an email, to NOSPAMtotallyradgamenight@gmail.comNOSPAM (remove NOSPAM). i'd like the following:
forum name
system / user name / top 5 games (for now, i'll expand later when i get a handle on this thing)
days and times availabe (ex. m-f 4:30pm to midnight, weekends 5pm until 2 am)i'll get on populating the calendar and spreadsheet with names/games/times as they roll in!
i look forward to killing you guys!

Definitely sounds interesting...but the only days I keep to a schedule are the days I work, otherwise I'm rather random. (Not to mention, I work Nights Thursday, Friday and Saturday...so I'm not available at all from Thursday morning through Sunday morning.)
That, and I refuse to shell out for an xbox live Gold subscription. (But have all three consoles and a PC)
So, will there be periodic updates here or has it moved to google already?

Since it looks as if Jae will be the one piecing together the calendar, I can only guess, but that guess would be that this thread will be reused, or a new one started, to post the links available for participating. For now, Jae is asking for an email containing the info needed, from anyone interested. Scan this thread, back a bit, to get that info.
I'm pretty excited about this. It's a good idea. Who knows, in the end, we may be able to get this put into the "common threads" announcement, if it proves useful to enough people.

I would also recommend the Fremont Fridays type model, it would make it so everyone is playing the same game, and you would be able to have more fun with more people.

Can't we share the calendar and each mark our own stuff?
If not, perhaps Google Spreadsheets would be better?
i'd be more than happy to share whatever if it's more convenient for you guys to update this. unless we can all just agree on one day a week or so in thread. i was trying to figure out what nights work based on who's available when. weekends i'd say are probably too random for most, plus, weekends are when i know i like to get out and do things outside of my apartment.
ok, so i've forgone the calendar instead using a crappy google docs form. if everyone interested could fill this out. that'd be great. :D

sooooo many bugs...
i think it's a Battlefield trademark. But see i just tested it for a focus group after work one night, I work at EA in California (Red Wood Shores -- south of San Francisco) and Bad Company was made by EA DICE, a Swedish video game developer, wholly owned by Electronic Arts. Also, I'm not a 'game tester' ...any more :D

Hmm, you work for EA, eh? Can you give me an explanation as to why Red Alert 3 was canceled for the PS3?
i haven't forgotten about the game night. i hope to have everything up within a week or two. which means anyone who hasn't signed up you better hurry up and do so if you want to be considered. also, i'll get another page started to list your top 3 or 5 games.
that'll probably get done tomorrow during work hours. stupid work.

I'd be interested in this too. I never buy games anymore ('cept GH/RB), but I'll jump in if I happen to have the title from Gamefly.
I should say too that I tend to play a lot on Sat & Sun mornings before the day really gets rolling since I can no longer seem to sleep past 8am regardless of when I go to sleep.

I'm interested in playing on Xbox Live. Maybe we can set up some kind of game night with the TRS guys too. It'd be easier if there could be a calender on the site that can be controlled by the moderators for game nights. So its not hidden between posts in a thread. Ya digg?

I went 18-3 last night in fight night.
Don't know why, connection was good with no lag, may hands were loose... right combinations of things, lead to me throwing the right combinations of things.... and those things are fists. I rose above and beat the hell out of ppl ranked way higher than me. Even toyed with one. I cut his face and that gave me so much confidence, that I could do no wrong, so I played with him and wouldn't ko him, but conncentrated on cutting the other side of his face. This made him frustrated so he threw 3 dirty illegals blows in a row, ( knees to the groin, elbows, for those that don't know ), and I countered with one elbow, and it flash ko'ed him. Didn't even do the ko moment, just iced him in real-time and made him buckle like an accordian into the ropes which made him bounce back towards me, so I threw an uppercut and that made him bend over backwards .... leaving him on his knees, facing me, bent over backwards, unconscious. That was fun.

I just don't know when I'm available and I don't steadily feel like playing, so, I don't know what to bother selecting on that form for what days and what time. Just add my PSN ID from my signature and when I'm on, ask me if I want to play what you want to play!
so here's what i've got from the 11 responses.
Mondays from 7 to 11 are good for an overwhelming majority of us.
Tuesdays from 8 to 11 are also great.
Wednesdays from 8 to 11 are good (in fact everyone who replied was available wednesdays from 9 to 10)
Thursdays are good also, again 8 to 11.
Let's try Wednesdays. It'll be a good mid-week pick up.Unless someone has serious issue with wednesday.
Now, what system? It seems most people responded with ps3s, so gta 4 tomorrow at 8 on system of your choice?
