OK guys, I just got back from the live diggnation, and Brian announced this at the show. Everyone who has twitter, start following @shwood. Everyone who doesn't have twitter, sign up and start following @shwood .

Tomorrow night (that would be June 6th), Brian will send out a message saying to subscribe to scam school on iTunes. If all goes well, thousands of people (assuming we get the message out) will sign up at the same time, and Brian will shoot up to the top of the rankings on iTunes.

We're going to try to do the impossible, a feat that could only be pulled off by Scam School: to CHEAT our way to the number one slot on iTunes podcasts. iTunes tracks podcasts by the current rate of new subscriptions... which means that if we gather a very large number of people, and get all of us to click "subscribe" at exactly the same moment (give or take an hour), we will rocket up from #57 in tech to spend one sweet, hilarious moment as the #1 podcast on all of iTunes.

I announced the plan last night at the live Diggnation, and asked folks to sign up for my twitter feed for future orders. The original plan was to do the targeted strike tonight (June 5th), but now, here's the updated plan (edited 6/5 at 3pm eastern):

made some edits to my post. I asked all the revision3 folks to hit up their twitter feeds, and it looks like we're getting attention!

So, to recap: the current plan is to have everyone subscribe at 3pm eastern time tomorrow (6/6). If you have a computer that you haven't installed itunes on, now's a good time. if you have a friend that doesn't mind you clicking subscribe on their computer (they can always cancel later), that'd be great.

there's only two (high resolution quicktime and HD quicktime), and I know many people have already subscribed to one of them. So subscribe to both if it's your first go, subscribe to the other if you're already on one.

I remember back when one person could pull this off. Back when iTunes first launched I spent about 8 hours clicking subscribe on The Chris Pirillo Show one night. By the time I woke up the next day it was the number one podcast on iTunes. Then Apple had to go and ruin everyone's fun by adding extra security so one computer gets one vote and not 1 million votes.

Scratch that. Tomorrow's the WWDC conference. Best we can hope for is that some people notice our little show on their way to subscribe to the apple keynote podcast.

The huge bump up probably gave you more new viewers from iTunes than you anticipated. If you do this again you need to make sure that it's after releasing a really good episode (not that Scam School isnt already really entertaining) to really hook in the potential viewers.

Something like: "Scam School LIVE - Pub Crawls, now with extra Fire!".

Or maybe figure out some way to combine women, beer and fire. Like "Impress women by turning beer into fire".
