Alright guys...As many of you know there are two new sponsors of Diggnation including Microsoft's Zune as well as HD-DVD. Many are calling this a sell-out etc and I figure we might as well keep all comments on it in one place. So here, anyone have opinions about this new sponsorship or either of the products themselves?
Personally, I think its an awesome addition and am interested to see how they do the ads at the end of the show. One of the big reasons I have always liked diggnation or really any revision3 show is that they talk about the sponsor rather than ignoring that they are there. It seems to be a neat approach to advertisements and once again am interested to see the show with these two new sponsors.
I am also going to go ahead and post the digg story although it is just linked to a personal blog....

Personally I don't really care. Most of my fave podcasts have ads, and if they bug me I just scrub through them. The fact that the new sponsors don't appeal to me is irrelevant. Zune, HD, cachfly, godaddy...
But if as far as the Zune is concerned I think Microsoft is just purchasing the adspace on Diggnation as a preemptive way to counter any negative stuff the guys may say about it. I'ts not like the guys are gonna open the show with:
"This weeks episode is brought to you by Zune. It sucks, but they paid."
MS is really just buying silence on a product that they know is not "there" yet. Time will tell if Kevin and Alex will fall for it. I'm guessing not.

Come on, the same cachefly and godaddy ads over and over again get old, even with alex and kevin's take on them. It was even harder with barterbee cuz you could tell that alex never even wanted to use it. I guess microsoft is ok as long as the ads for them arent ADDED to the current 3 minutes it takes for godaddy and cachefly. I know 6 or 7 mins per show isnt as bad as tv but it isnt like a news reporter on CNN is trying to sell me stuff... if MS and cachefly and godaddy sent them pre-recorded commercials that i could easily ignore that would be fine... but when i skip thru now i can never tell if they are talking about their sponsors or some other tangent... godaddy already failed me, cachefly gets bad rep in other countries, and MS.... is... MS.
[edit] and going with the above post, its gonna suck not hearing honest advice from kevin and alex about the zune.
just my thoughts

To me selling out would be advertising something that totally sucks just to get some money out of it. But I've only seen Diggnation advertise products and services that Kevin and Alex have used personally and have had really great things to say about them, so I doubt that Zune and HD-DVD would be sponsors for long if the products sucked since Kevin and Alex would completely bash it on their show.

Who gives a crap if it sucks of not. Throwing a little cash to our boys is never a bad thing. I'm sure they keep real and not say that it great when it blows. Frankly, I think the Zune could kick major ass but they're marketing and software issues are gonna kill it anyway. What's the idea of making a music player that doesn't work with Windows Media player?

Yeah, I was just thinking that if it sucked then we'd be hearing about it from Kevin and Alex's own personal experience. Though my guess is that Alex will like it and Kevin will despise it.

No its a great thing Microsoft is sponsoring Diggnation....Im just speaking of the product itself...But others seem to be angered at the "Selling out" or diggnation which Im not sure how its "selling out."

Who cares who their sponsors are. Long as they keep shows coming.

For me it felt weird that Kevin talked so positive about the sponsors on such a personal level. Over here in Sweden there is always a clear line between sponsors and the content of a show. But as long as they don't start to praise the Zune and bash the iPod I guess I wont consider it a sellout and I'll just get used to the line between sponsors and "editorial content" being a bit fuzzy.

I don't know if you have seen it but Zune just got a 3rd party program that supports podcasting. Simple, does the work and its 100% free.

Zune-Online.com is a Zune fan news site and forum.
We don't sell the PodCast program a) it is 100% free, b) we didn't create it, c) we don't get money or anything to promote it.
It is just a usefull information for the forum of a site that is sponsored by Zune!

I still thing it's a bunch of Indian sweatshop workers in Bombay getting paid leave messages on internet forums for 5 cents a post.

Hmmmm, I didn't know that Zune was released in Greece. Or did you start the fan site of a product you've never seen in real life?

I have no problem with the Zune or HD-DVD on diggnation. One diggnation is making money that's good for all diggnation fans. Two the show is still being made so I'm happy. Three I want a HD-DVD player for my XBOX360.

the minute I read this I thought it was a joke... mainly cause I didn't realize a DVD format could be a sponsor... I mean I reallize they're owned by a company but I just find it odd...
This weeks episode of diggnation is brought to you by Laserdisc... okay we get it, we sucked - but we were at least nice and shiny!
I was chuckling during that whole Zune ad because I was watching it on my Zune (which is the same color as the one on there), so it was a Zune inside a Zune inside a Zune.
I don't really have any problems with it because they'll probably talk honestly about the Zune next episode and now that they've had a long advert it'll be short from now on like the HD DVD one was.
Whoops.. somehow this got posted as a new thread. Meant to put it in the one about the new sponsors.
If some mod can move it over, thanks.
