View Full Version : Creationists thread (not what you think)

Ok, this is about creativity, not religion.

all you creative folks, this is the thread to talk about non-tech creative stuff. art, music, print/web design, (kinda tech, but leave codey stuff out, this is for the final product, not the underlying code, etc), dance, acting, Photos and the whole realm of creativity. Mostly about inspiration and finished stuff.

Basically, why are we different than folks who love math, or mechanics, or science, or just going to some 9-5 job to pay the bills?

I love photography and homebrewing. My wife minored in art and writes poetry. What do we do for a living? We both teach Math.

How do you differ? Not that much...

Music, music, music.

Anything and everything music.

One of my band's unreleased songs (which needs lyrics, once we decide on a singer, that will be remedied) is 100% mine. All parts and arranging were done by me. It's kind of like my magnum opus, except for the fact that I hope to do some solo stuff once I get my recording gear setup.

There are times when I wish I could turn my art into a business, but then that would mean that my recreation is my job, and its sometihng I would have to do, not want to do.

Oh yeah - stained glass / leadlight. Its a very mechical, engineering focused type of creativity, and I use tools (grinder and a soldering iron), but its art non the less.

Oh yeah 2.0 - I am learnin' the banjo. My neck is getting a little redder as we speak.

Oh yeah 3.0 - I also enjoy cooking if that counts.

You need a more than one type option.

When I was younger I started taking piano lessons, then Ukulele lessons. Tried saxophone one year and didn't like it. Tried guitar but never had the time to really get into it.

As long as I could remember I used to help my dad in his work shop doing wood working (wood turning, carpentry, etc). In high school I took up glass blowing, wheel throwing (both of which I love and wish I could continue). One summer while rebuilding our glass shop I learned how to weld (MIG and stick) and how to use an acetylene torch. After that I started to incorporate metal into some of my art pieces.

In college for my fine arts credit I took up photography and I've taken that up as my new hobby. I've also recently gotten into doing photoshop/design work and am slowly (VERY SLOWLY) learning Maya and 3d rendering and animation.

I'm mostly a musician, poet, photoshop artist and comedy writer, but I dabble in an few other things as well.
A while back I read somewhere that creativity is actually caused by a lack of filtering in the brain. We creative types simply take in far more information than normal people. I'll look for the article and post a link if I find it.

I was gonna list stained glass in the visual arts, but there are so many visual arts... and if a mod can add to the poll I would add a checkbox for culinary arts and change architecture to architecture/interior design, if you can. thanks.

half of those are musical, and half are visual. the thread is about the talent, not the tools. can a mod change it so we can choose more than one. most creative folks are talented in more than one area. I would choose visual and design. maybe even writing, but certainly not dance. haha.

i know this one ;)

because we are more right brain we get our data more from our connection with our subconscious than objective 'facts'

imagination is reality for us

answer to poll: some variation on most if not all of the above

but mostly music poetry dance and philosophy

I don't consider myself very creative. I, for the moment am in a "creativity dryspell".

I make music, webdesign, code, dance (pretty much suck), and troll.

I think I'm loosing my creativity because I've taught myself (x)html, ajax and PHP in like 2 months. I haven't mastered but I think I've got the grip.

My hobbies/crafts are both music and art.

I play mandolin, make stained glass, and just started learning to weld.

What's leadlight?Stained glass is generally copper wrapped glass. Leadlight is using lead came instead of wrapping the copper, fluxing, then laying down solder like you do in copper foil. Its more architectural.

I would like to try slumping and blowing as well - glass fascinates me, and has done ever since I studied materials engineering in high school many years ago.

Leadlight sounds more complex, interesting though. Glass is a really cool material to work with. I'd like to do more with it as well.

I'm sorry dude but worst choice of words for a thread EVER. You should've used the word "Creators" or "Creativity" rather than "Creationists". We all pretty much know what a creationist is compared to a creator or creativity.

I am a writer and been writing short stories and right now have a book I am co-writing with my mom (she has already written two books) and I am working on a play but I have in the past designed football uni's and my own clothes sometimes for fun.

However always wanted to draw but I am so horrible and I have these images in my head but can never get them to paper..I can't even draw a decent circle...my grandfather could draw my dad could draw but I suck.

Here is an example of my grandfathers hand drawn in pencil (apologies for the bad camera quality)

Those are nice, and not just cause they are nude men. Did they pursue their talents, as careers, or just hobby?

Both me and my brother were lucky, we both inherited our dads, his dads, and our moms visual art skill.

I play several instruments, and over the years I've played in most of the world's premier concert halls as part of an ensemble.

I do industrial - and related - design for both fun and large profit.

I write, but really only commercial / editorial-style articles so it doesn't really count as productivity.

I had no idea we had a rep system until now. I have a whole 4 points apparently. Woohoo!
