Does anyone know where I can watch or listen or read the time war back story that wiped out the Time Lords? I've been looking all over and can't figure out when it happened, or what the details were.

As far as I know. They've never fleshed out the details. The producer might have it in notes. Remember, Doctor Who was last in regular production of a Doctor Who series before this century was not after 1990. At that time, the Timelords were alive and kicking.

They were alive and kicking for Doctor Who: The Movie from 1996 as well. But there were a few books and radio shows that I haven't read or heard that this may be in.

That's a possibility. On the other hand, it might just be created by Russell.

Yout can try the Wikipedia page on the time war. Time War Wiki Entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_War_(Doctor_Who))

I can't really speak to its accuracy, but it has linked refs and is a place to start.

It was mentioned in the series that the Daleks were wiped out in the time war by the Doctor.

I discount Wikipedia for most things like this, but you were right, I think it was actually a good resource for the most part.

As far as I knew the concept was created for the show. I could ask my dad later, who watched Dr. Who for years. I think it may have been creative licensing or something to make the Doctor more sympathetic and also frightening.

As far as I can remember from what the Doctor has said in the current series, The Doctor ended the Time War by wiping out all of the Time Lords and the Daleks, because that was the only way to end it. Hence him being the "last of the Time Lords".

However since there are still random Daleks floating about (damn that "emergency temporal shift"!!!), one has to wonder how he could have done such a crap job at it. ;) And if there are still Daleks, wouldn't it be a logical next step that there are still some Time Lords out there? Since I've only just begun watching Doctor Who with the current run (the "new" series), I can't speak to any history, but from what friends have told me, the Time War has never been shown.
