This movie was actually awesome! The animation was amazing as was the Kung Fu. As a comedy it wasn't hilarious(it is still funny though), but it was more about the story and the kung fu which was very very well done.
I definitely recommend it!

I second the recommendation. There were definitely parts that just got some big laughs from myself and everyone in the audience. This is definitely one of the better animated films in awhile. Not quite like a Pixar movie, but I had a really good time seeing it. The action sequences were also pretty awesome. Too bad a game based on this will probably suck, cause I wanted to play scenes out of the movie.

It does not look funny at all to me. I can see why children would like it, but not adults.

I just got back from watching Kung Fu Panda. It was really great! It looked brilliant and all the action/fighting was very stylish. Also, I'm a huge Jack Black fan and I think he pulled the panda bear off perfectly. I kept looking at him thinking, "That IS Jack Black. . . No, it's a panda bear. . . No, it's both" =)
This is a really fun movie that I'd highly recommend. However, it is still missing whatever secret ingredient Pixar puts into their movies.
I hope they don't make a sequel. . .

My husband and I agreed that this movie was the best non-cult animated movies we've ever seen. I absolutely loved it!!!

i thought the movie was good, but nothing spectacular. There is a quality difference between movies like this and those of pixar. The story seemed pretty generic to me, very reminiscent of star wars or the matrix which made it pretty predictable.

But that settles it. This is my next movie. Then zohan.

For me, Kung Fu Panda finally proved out Dreamworks' potential as a solid companion to Pixar. Between Shrek and Madagascar and uggh, Sharktale, I have had no desire to see another DW cartoon. KFP is everything that those movies weren't: no poop jokes, no pop-culture references, and no high-priced voice actors shoved down our throats. I only knew of Jack Black walking into the movie: it was an unexpected sign of restraint from DW marketing that somehow made the movie so much better to watch.
Dreamworks has some of the best artists in the industry working under their banner, and two of them finally had their time to shine with Kung Fu Panda. The character designs were the work of Nico Marlet (http://www.emanuellevy.com/article.php?articleID=10065) (Monster's Inc., Over the Hedge), and the action scene animation ,choreographed by DW storyboard artist Rod Guen (http://www.rodguen.com/) was probably the best fight scene cartoon work in a long time.
How about that jailbreak scene: it had to be one of the best all-time setup and payoffs of any movie, animated or otherwise.
And if you're a fan of traditional 2D animation, or Samurai Jack for that matter, the opening sequence left my friends and I drooling. James Baxter (http://www.jamesbaxteranimation.com/) is on a role after this and the beginning of Enchanted.
I don't know why I geeked out so much at KFP, but I know I'm going back to see it again.

When I said cult-animated, I meant like.. The Last Unicorn, Flight of Dragons, Secret of Nimh.
We had a great time seeing this movie. Most reviewers are panning it as too silly for adults and OK for kids. My experience, in a theater full of kids, was that the kids were having a blast and the parents were too. Lots of smiles on faces walking after it was over.
What a relief. I agree with Oddernod. I'm so tired or grammar school gutter humor in every damn movie. Whether it is for "kids" or adults. Are all movie makers 7 years old?
No studio seems immune. Even Enchanted, my favorite movie from last year, didn't escape. I can't believe producers pay millions of dollars to produce this stuff. It is unnecessary. No one would miss it. Take all these scenes out and you'd have shorter better films. Is Hollywood so bereft of creative talent or is it that they don't trust their work or the audience enough?

Took the kids and we had a total blast we were all laugh out loud. Kids also got pumped from the Madagascar 2 movie trailer. Jack Black was totally Rad, but a huge nod to Dustin Hoffman.

Would it be suitable to bring a date to?

Would it be suitable to bring a date to?
I dont know if its the fact I watched diggnation and watched Alex and Kevin try to give dating/woman advice, but I would highly recommend that you ask your date what they want to see, say this way "You pick the movie and I'll pay. That way if the movie stinks, I look like a gentalman, if the movie is great then you own me a <coffee, beer, soda, ice cream> after." (what ever is age appropriate.)
Just some free advice .. :)
As for a date movie, has a lot of "depends" with it. I would say first it "depends" on your age. Not really that much out there at the theatre for ppl under 17. So if you are young enough it might be ok.
If you are older, you are going to sort of come off as somewhat childish maybe (of course if your date has kids of their own, it wont likely matter)
I mean the movie is good, funny and entertaining, but its not normally what you would consider a date movie.
Having said that, if you ignore my advice about getting your date to choose the movie, then maybe just offer it up as an option to see. Like test the waters.

The "what do you want to see?" would be the ideal choice in my mind except I am essentially the cinema-whore of everyone I know and I wouldn't want to risk having to sit through some of the films I chose not to see (such as Sex and the City or The Strangers) :P
Thanks for your thoughts.

I enjoyed this film... sure some parts are a little more childish than I would have liked, and some parts last uncomfortably long, but the movie was damn good.
I would have been totally happy though if it was all done in the intro animation style, that samurai jack but more cooler style from the dream.

I am too. I can see them really enjoying this movie. I thought this would have been a better choice than Zohan movie. Even after the trailers pretty much show this movie, I stilled enjoyed it.
Did everyone stay till after the credits?

I think they saw Zohan because of a press screening. I can't beat an early/free screening. I went to Tomb Raider a week early cause my friend's mom worked for a radio station.
