i read somewhere that the new i phone will be delayed release much like the new iphone - this comes from the fact that nobody has heard of a test unit being sent to the FCC....

From what I've read the submittal process to the FCC isn't the same as it was for the first generation of the phone, and that they can choose to keep such things private until the phone is released.

I think the biggest delay we could expect is till later in the month for the anniversary of the 1st iPhone's release. With the word that AT&T employees can't take a vacation for the next month after WWDC it seems pretty definite that the release is in that window.

I tend to just wait it out. Apple events are always over hyped, and are seemingly a let down because of it.

I usually set my sights low, like I expect leopard updates, new software for the iPod and iPhone, and then I won't be let down if he neglects to show us "one more thing"

With that said,
I am really excited about the event, as I am most all Apple events.

I keep track for iPod stuff [still waiting for a 64GB iPod touch], but it's nowhere near the big deal for me that things like computex and CES are. I couldn't care less about the iphone [least not til it hits 64GB] so I imagine I'm going to be underwhelmed.

Display it like a trophy? I'd keep that one around, but then again, I didn't spend the money on it.

I really like the pricing on the iPhones, but damnit to hell, I was hoping for a 32GB size. I'm even more tempted to get the $199 8GB one though and I'll just carry my iPod classic around with me for music. I mostly just want the iPhone for the on-the-go internet and GPS anyways so it's already a huge leap over my current phone. Argh, decisions decisions. Odds are, I'll buy one and they'll release the 32GB one the day after.

oh man, my tmo contract is up in august. maybe i'll buy the phone, but not activate it on the 11th. stupid tmobile.

I was telling myself yesterday only thing that could convince me to get an iphone is if it hit 200. With it at 400 I thought that'd be impossible.

We see how that turned out.......

Now I have no freakin clue what to do, because the phone is amazing, but my parents will never go for the overpriced AT&T iphone plan [yes, I'm still on my parent's plan. Blame college]. Hope apple or AT&T does something about that, or else I can kiss that pretty black iPhone goodbye.

Well I live in Paris and the 50 euro plan Orange has is a lil expensive for me. So I hope do introduce some other plans, around 20-30 would be nice :)

I want one. put the TRS background thing on it an I would be set.

My cell right now is a Motorola Q and i dont use it for video/music/internet at all(hell i only have a 512 stick in it) so even the 8gb at 200 bucks works great for me.

I was considering buying it and putting it on Tmo [Pwning tool FTW] but patrick tweeted that they aren't going to be selling them online anymore only at stores, and you have to sign a contract/activate right then and there. In that case, apple and the iPhone can go screw themselves. I'm not gonna have AT&T gouge the hell outta me for a cool phone I don't even need.

I'm just happy that the iPhone is coming to Canada! I would have hated to of been forced to buy one from the states and sync it up to Rogers up here or something. Can't wait!

It might seem ridiculous as a tech savy consumer, but from Apple's view it made a lot of sense. Traditionally these phones were dictated by the provider, not the manufacturer. Apple set out to make a phone to their specifications, demand that they get a piece of the monthly bill. Most providers weren't willing to do that, but AT&T was convinced by the exclusivity deal. Apple is cleaning up now, and will continue to clean up once they can make similar deals with other providers.

I think you are underestimating the number of people who will be willing to drop $200 for one of these things. I've been trying to convince my wife for a year now, and she wouldn't budge. When I told her about the price drop she says "You've spent that much on a phone before, haven't you? Let's do it!" Rumblings around my office are largely the same. I think you can expect to see a lot more of these things in the coming months as existing contracts expire and people make the switch.
