Anyone else check out Squarespace.com that Alex and Kevin were talking about in the latest episode?
Free 14-day trial . . . might give it a shot.
There are some NICE layouts via the "EXAMPLES" page. Especially the photo-blog page.

Thoughts?

Hey -- this is Anthony, the founder of Squarespace. Let me know if you have any thoughts on the service via twitter (www.twitter.com/acasalena).

Also! We're announcing something very big in about 3 weeks (new product UI). We'll announce on Diggnation when that's out too :) It's a massive change.

Hey Anthony, great job with Squarespace! The latest UI is slick and super easy.

For everyone else out there, Squarespace can do some pretty powerful stuff. I used to be a Blogger user (this sounds like a lame infomercial) but I think I'm going to keep my SS after this Diggnation contest ends.

I love it!

I don't like the idea of squarespace at all.

why not? Personally, I'm not a fan of pay for service, though most blogging sites don't do a lot for you and it seems like squarespace would.

ive tried it a couple times...maybe Im just a retard or I am used to making pages from scratch but I cant get a hang of the UI at all. And im typically very good with that kind of stuff. It is damn near as confusing as Maya 3d lol

I just think it's kind of expensive. I mean, I can code and design my own pages so it just seems silly to me...

I love the site, and played with it for the 14 day trial and really enjoyed it, but I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money.

i think they would be more successful if the service was just for the design and not for the hosting. The service should be more of a product where you don't need to work through their web based ui, instead it should be more like a hands on app you can download.

That would end up costing the user more money, paying for a design service that isn't exclusive to their site would most likely cost a lot more. At least I'd expect it to.

any ideas??You need to set it up correctly at your registrar to redirect correctly. I am guessing you need to add a redirection for www to your acount as well.

You need to talk to whoever set up your domain (which a simple whois shows was godaddy) to redirect www.anthonygarcianation.com as well as anthonygarcianation.com to the SS page.

I really like squarespace, I used the code from the show and it saved me some money, not a lot but it could add up. I made the site that I've always wanted to in only a few days. It has Indie music spotlights, web videos, video game reviews, and a bunch of other stuff. If you want to you can check it out http://www.seriouslyinformal.com

I love squarespace. Especially the people there provide some really great service! They are so friendly!

It is obviously not for web designers but for people who wants to blog or setup a portfolio but have no idea how to create a website. Also it is great because I can't be bothered to make sure my site is compatible with all browsers and squarespace saves me all that trouble.

An interesting thing happened to me about Squarespace.

I posted elsewhere that I can't scroll up using the laptop scroll wheel and touchpad scrolling when I use Google Chrome. Yet, I went to Kevin Rose's Blog (made by Squarespace) while on Chrome and after a few seconds up-scrolling worked? It's the only site I have been on that worked, and I sent squarespace a twitter telling them so.

It may help figure out what the problem is (yes, I've loaded the newest drivers).

The interface is pretty good, although the prebuilt library of templates is surprisingly small. Don't plan on having anything very unique without getting pretty deep into the CSS.

Pricing is high, especially since you need to upgrade three levels just to get interactive forms. I'm still trying to figure out how they justify that.

Also, there is no support for IE6 so if you need to work from remote locations or in a corporate environment you are out of luck. If you only work on your own computer that is fine, but posting from the road in an internet cafe may not be possible.

Ive always wanted to try them but it seems to be totally skewed toward blog type sites. Are there examples of other kinds of sites made with Squarespace?

Honestly, I see that as more of a bonus... I mean sucks if you get in that situation, but IE6 is terrible.
