Is there a difference between Jr. Member and Member and how does one get to move from Jr. Member to Member?

Its based on your post count.

Yeah, I believe it changes once you get 30 posts. At least that's how the forums are currently configured.

The ranks are pretty meaningless in most forums.

They need to change it to something cooler like...Revision3 Overlord after like 3,000 posts

and slightly obsessive if you have 3000 posts when the new forums are only around for a day or so.

3, 000 posts on an active forum is nothing. Try 30, 000 or even 300, 000.

Who ever has the most posts at any point in time should have a unique rank...

Why cant we all just have 0 post ranks? Then people dont most meaningless posts about post counts?

Don't you know post count is directly proportional to penis size? :D

Posts counts are awesome....for what purpose? lol...thats what I never could understood...sure it feels good to have the most...but why?

Why not have ratings as to how helpful someone is instead of counts?

I agree that post counts are worthless but a rating system is even worse. That becomes a "He doesn't agree with me." Think about it, anyone who posted a suggestion/complaint/etc about diggnation would be "dugg down" so quickly. I think the post counts should be taken away as well and I think that the active/helpful users will arise anyway with or without post counts just like they did before.

I hate people who come on here and bash others for posting, "Wow, 200 posts... get a life!"

Yet they took the time to register here and post as well... why can't we all just get along? :)

I love forums, and I spend alot of my free time on them...you can learn alot, teach alot, and just have fun, so worrying about post counts should not matter.

Good point about the ranking system though...didn't think about that...

Random idea..using a combo of rating system and posts for rankings - the higher people rate you, the higher your rank is, and the more posts you have, the easier it is to move up - so it might take 100 posts + high ranking to get the same level as 200 posts + medium ranking, and so on.

any thoughts?

That might involve a nifty little code to do though.

Any kind of rank/rating system is just to make the new people feel good about themselves. People that contribute, contribute regardless. I've been on boards with ranks, ratings, post counts, "thanks" systems.....the people that do the most care about it the least. Post count and all that really doesn't matter

I dont hate or love post counts but i do think they should change it fro 1-50-100 to higher levels.
Change the names too

klitzy, true - and i dont know enough about coding to know if it'd be easy to do or not so figured i'd just suggest it.

Doesn't VBulletin come with some sort of "kharma" thing that's supposed to do that?

its fun to a point. When I look back at another place I go and see the post count quickly close on 20,000.....I just think of all the wasted time

Then there are the people that get hung up on it. A guy invited me to his board to help on in the tech forum and general crap and I had about 1,000 posts..all helping people. Some guy jumped on my shit for not being "thanked" enough, because the main forum is for lady pics and things and people "thank" you for. He was going by one marker of rank. I had to lay it to him, then about 15 other people jumped down on him....it wasn't pretty. All because he got hung up on some ranking system

Though post count does server its purpose. And I'd like it to stay. I just don't like all the other ratings systems. It makes for extra work for no real purpose
