I think a sketch comedy show would be a perfect addition to the lineup of Revision3 shows...anyone else agree?

Isn't Internet Superstar (minus the interviews) a sketch comedy?

Not really--I was thinking more along the lines of SNL/MadTV or even something like The Very Angry Neighbors (that Jeff Cannata is in)...

ah, i see. that would be kinda cool.

I like the idea, but aside from Moujan and Jay I'm not sure who would have the comedic chops.

Jeff. and maybe Alex. and Martin??? and I'm sure some other people could show up...

I was thinking kind of the same thing, most of the time the intro's to TRS are pretty funny and leave me wanting more!

hmm. This is a good idea in theory, but they'd really have to hire a small writing staff to do this. Although Rev3 is executed very well, most of the people who work there wear many hats and writing up completely original content that is funny is a time intensive task.

I think the "cast" mentioned in this thread would be great (Moujan, Martin, Jay, Alex, Jeff), but half of them are in SF and half of them are LA. That would make filming very difficult.

jeff could be cut out (maybe) and it could film the same day as diggnation, cuz that's usually filmed in SF, so alex goes up there anyways... or jeff could go when alex goes... and i'm sure there's other people that could also be added in... like Andrew Bancroft...

iFanboy films every few weeks and Ron lives in SF, but Josh and Conor live in NY.

I'm sure that they could film a bunch of skits on the same day, kind of like PixelPerfect is filmed. If Diggnation and iFanboy can do it, why can't this show?

I hadn't thought of Andrew Bancroft, he would be a good addition and Kelly Sutton seems to be pretty funny. So, if those two replace Jeff and Alex (assuming that Rev 3 hires Kelly after his internship), then that puts everyone in SF (most sketch troupes are only 5-6 people anyway). This could work after all.

It would definitely be more likely if everyone was in the SF area. Perhaps they could have Jeff and Alex as head writers for the show since they are probably the most veteran (in sketch comedy and comedy writing) of the team. That way Alex and Jeff could hold teleconferences/videoconferences for writers' meetings.

Writing for sketch comedy is very time intensive. It takes significantly more time and effort to write scripts that are funny for sketches than it does to write a script for a news-like show/interview show or DIY show or really any other show on Rev3. THAT is why creating a sketch comedy show would be more difficult and possibly unattainable at this point in Rev3's lifetime.

As you said, scripts can be written via teleconference/videoconference...

my "chunks" suggestion was more about the acting/filming portion, not the writing portion. Trust me, I've tried to write comedy before...

It doesn't necessarily have to involve people who already work at Revision3--nothing wrong with new people......

That's why I didn't say every week. I said every few weeks...

It's cool. you can tell which week they're filming because the Tuesday (This week's comics) mini usually has all three of the guys...

OMG IT JUST HIT ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Revision3 should have a reality show!!!!

Ok so everyone hates reality shows, but get this..

What if the reality show was about the people who worked at revision3 and there day to day lives. EXCEPT that it wasn't real but only made to look real. Like have office tension, and backstabbing and some office romance. Make it look like a big brother type of show, except not technically real. ANYONE GET WHAT I'M SAYING???

Hmmm, a fictionalized reality show set in an office. Sounds kinda familiar.

What about giving 'Coach Cole' his own spin off show?

Why don't they bring Jeff Cannata's show, "Very Angry Neighbors" to Revision3 and expand it?!

I saw a few of their episodes and they're fantastic. To make it work release 2 skits each week during a season rotation like Web Drifter. Then you don't have to worry about meeting ridiculous deadlines writing for shows every single week and you have a buffer time to really polish them! It's a no-brainer addition to revision3 in my opinion.

I can't find their website, but here's one of their skits. More on their myspace page:

Simply brilliant.

The sketch comedy idea is awesome I would love to see that but instead of being made up the the all ready existing cast on rev3 find an all new cast then have one of the rev3 stars "guest host" every week. Then the guest host would only have to go to SF every three months or so.

I think some people in this thread don't understand what would be involved in such an undertaking. If you don't have a staff of good, professional comedy writers, it's not going to be consistently funny.

There's plenty of sketch comedy talent available at easy grasp. I'm of the belief that if you're going to find the best stuff in Canada though. Canada has a long legacy of exporting only the finest sketch comedy. SCTV, Kids in the Hall, the list goes on. Rev3 couldn't hurt itself by having its own "SNL" in it's pocket. Like a Jr. NBC playset.

With the recent acquisitions of Hak5 and Epic Fu, it's clear that Revision 3 has no qualms bringing in long established net based properties. Why not see if the guys at LoadingReadyRun wouldn't mind the idea of some kind of merger? They'd both gain in the long run. Bigger audience, more exposure, bigger paychecks. I'm sure Graham and Paul wouldn't hate the idea, and there really is no downside for Rev3.

Consider it, won't you?
