View Full Version : Damn, am I the only one amped for X-Files?

I'm just going through the series. At 21, the X-Files was just out of my reach (had to get to bed before the show aired when I was a kid)

I bought the huge box set - 9 seasons + 1 film, and it's incredible. Makes TV nowadays look like utter crap.

Nothing exists like this anymore - no scary shows left, nothing that combines both a huge story arc and "monster of the week." Television is in a sad state right now.

I also JUST watched the episode that Dan brought up in the latest episode of TRS. The X-Cops episode was unbelievably cool, and yes - obviously way ahead of its time.

Anyway, I'm on season 7 of 9 of the X-Files, trying to finish before the movie comes out. The first film was awesome, and I have high hopes for this one.

The closest thing to the X-Files I can think of that's on TV today is Supernatural, which I love.

My girlfriend is a huge fan on X-Files and I just bought her that 'ultimate collection' you were talking about. Because she's so hyped for the new film, I think I've gained some hype off of her.

I am SUPER excited for the movie, and I never ever ever watched the original show. It practically finished before I was tv-watching age.

Also, Fringe looks like a fucking amazing TV-show; and I already coined it my generation's x-files.

What a strange, self absorbed question.

was in college when it started so I was a big fan right away when it was on the verge of being cancelled too...not like fox would ever cancel a cult hit...so I'll hit the movie in the theater for support...it will be interesting to see these characters again...

no. you are not the only one. I am , um er, "amped" (?) too. Loved this show since season one and never missed it. I should totally get the box set.

and you are right, the fact that every ep was a mini movie really did it for me. despite time schedules for a weekly show, they really spent a lot of time on locations, cinematography, mood music, character development. recurring themes, etc...

From what little I've seen of Lost, looks like they tried to capture some of what made X-files great, but also stole the un-great parts, too. aka: the unfixable conspiracy contradictions.

also. list your most:

favorite
memorable
least good
freakiest

episodes.

favorite: the groundhog day satire
memorable: the one with charles nelson riley, just cause it had charles nelson riley in it.
least good: anything after Mulder left
freakiest: trapped in the giant New Jersey Fungus

I was kinda young when the X-Files was on, but I still watched it, and loved it. Don't remember a lot of specifics, but hearing about stuff like the Cops style episode has given me some major feelings of nostalgia, and I'm definitely excited for the new movie. I just can't get enough Mulder . . .

I'm looking forward to it. Not amped though.

I wasn't amped for it. Then I saw a G4 interview with Chris Carter on the making of the new movie and found out that it won't be continuing the "story" of X-Files. In fact it will be more like the stand alone (aka the best episodes) of the series that didn't have anything to do with aliens, or shapeshifter, or killer flu bees or all that crap that bogged down the end of the series and the first movie.

Can't wait for this thing now.

I loved the TV series, and the movie was great (i'm not sure how well it has aged but my memories are fond).
but I am unsure if the premiss of another movie without any relevent TV story to either lead us in or pick up the thread afterwards is going to be great. what can they show us here that they didnt show us before?
I will go see this movie for sure, but I wont be excited until maybe a day or two before.

I liked the funny episodes. I hope the movie has at least a little humor.

My mom and I are huge fans of the TV series. We used watch it every Sunday night at 7pm and then Star Trek TNG right after it at 8pm. We'll definitely be seeing the movie when it comes out!

It's been said before but it was very well put, " This movie is about a decade to late."

this quote is a "o" too short.
