I have to admit, when Apple first came out with Apple TV I "didn't get it."
I mean, okay, so you can buy PPV movies and TV shows, etc. Great. Most of that I could already do with my Time Warner cable box.
BUT...
A few months after Apple TV had been out, I realized the additional value with it is being able to download content via the Internet, 'beam' it to the Apple TV, and then watch that content on a TV.
So I use my Apple TV a lot for watching Rev3 shows and it's AWESOME!
I download the high def version of a show (h.264 format), import it into iTunes on my MacBook Pro under 'Apple TV' which it auto-detects through my wireless network, then it immediately syncs and beams the file over to my Apple TV which I have hooked up to a big HDTV.
The quality isn't ultra high definition or anything, but it looks really good. The live action video shots (i.e. of people and the sets) looks decent. Graphics (like onscreen demos, sponsor logos, etc.) look FANTASTIC. Crystal clear.
So just wondering if anyone else out there watches their Rev3 shows on an HDTV using Apple TV? (Or any other media server device.)
I need to figure out how to setup a script on my MacBook Pro so that as soon as I download a Rev3 episode that it automatically imports it into iTunes for the ATV and then auto-syncs it with the ATV so it's ready to go. Otherwise, it takes an extra step to manually import it into iTunes.
With this setup it's easy to see the FUTURE OF TELEVISION is Internet-distributed content. Rev3 is definitely 'ahead of the curve' and really leading the way in this area.
With these possibilities now anyone can essentially have their own cable TV channel without spending millions of dollars. Times sure are changing quickly! It will be exciting to see the next wave of video content that is created this way.
So anyone else running a similar setup with their HDTV and using the h.264 downloads?
