I'm sitting here watching Temple Of Doom, and I must say, I think I overestimated its quality when I saw it as a young'un. It's just not a very good story and is out of place between Raiders and Last Crusade. I've heard the new one suffers from the same curse but haven't seen it yet. What are other peoples' thoughts on this phenomenon?

Wouldn't this be the curse of the even numbers? Just saying. . . =)

not necessarily, as he's referring to be the curse that odd numbers are good. Though I've always known it as the odd-even rule.

As long as you don't forget that #2 still has its classic moments; the mine cart, short round, the bridge, evil indy, kah-li-ma, etc.

Temple Of Doom is my least favorite. There is just something about it that bugs me.

I found that my main problem was that it wasn't much character development. Also, Raiders and Last Crusade were heavy Christian influenced which I think resonates more with the Western world, where as I felt like I was missing something that an Easterner would get when I was watching Doom.

My two main issues with Temple of Doom are the opening musical sequence (really, if it was just shown as a show the guy was watching it would've been fine, but it was just too much) and the fact that he wasn't even out to do the whole thing. He was rather pressured into it, like some extravagant setup to get him to meet the whole mystic, etc. In Raiders, he set off on his own doing by request of the government. In Crusade, he set off on his own doing to chase after his father. In Temple, he set off chasing a diamond...and gets dropped into something completely different...felt like a left turn down a one-way street.

Not saying it was bad or there weren't any good things that came out of it...it just didn't feel right. Maybe the musical intro always makes me biased though, so maybe I should watch it once and start after that part.

That thing would be Willie for me, aka Kate Capshaw. I really, really thought that Temple of Doom was my second favorite, but I just watched it again and it isn't as good as I remembered. I still like it, but I found myself apologizing for so much of the film as I watched it with my wife.
