View Full Version : My Little Vista Problem (Rev3 Not Streaming)

Hey Guys,

I use an old school XBMC 180 to watch my downloaded content and I have for YEARS now and it worked flawless, now I might be just mentally disabled but I just got a new computer with a shiny new version of Vista on it and all my *cough* private use media files I've downloaded from bit torrent work just fine. But my Rev3 shows downloaded from the website dont even start to stream.

Is it Vista? Or is it me? Is it XMBC? Did you guys change the codec or something?

Any one have any ideas?

It's most likely not Vista... Though you give no information other than "OMG It's not working!" Please give more info. Are you using media server software, i.e. TVersity, Twonkey, Nero MediaHome? If not, do you have your shares set up correctly? Are you wired on 10/100? Do yo know that the Rev3 files will even play on it, they have been known to tweak encoding and break compatibility with some devices. Basically, give more info and don't just assume that it has to be some arbitrary thing, who knows maybe you'd have the same problem if you did a fresh reinstall of XP.

No a transcoding server, just a shared folder over the samba.

Its a wired connection.

As I said in my post they streamed fine before vista, and now do not.

I even fired up my old XP computer and it worked like butter. I've tried every version of the latest TRS, Diggnation, and Epic Fu. And even some older Diggnations.

Everything works when copied over to xbox's hard drive but will not stream.

I was just curious if I was the only one that had this problem. It could have something to do with Firefox maybe? I'm running the RC2. All the other video is from bit torrent. I'd try the Rev3 bit torrents but they dont seem to be working at the moment.

You seem a little snippy about me dogging on Vista... I didn't post this to start a Ant-Vista/Pro-Vista thread just wondering if I'm missing some setting or something...

I apologize then. I've just heard a lot of people (on these forums and in Real Life) that have an issue with their computer and instantly think that it is Vista that is the problem, without even looking for a real solution.

Now for the nitty-gritty questions. You said you are using shares and that copying them to the hard drive works, does it do the same for non-Rev3 videos?
have you tried streaming from the machine to another pc?
Are you running Vista SP1?
Honestly, if you have the shares open and can copy the files over to the XBMC hard drive, then the only reason I can think of for you not being able to stream would be bandwidth. But that hardly makes sense, since you are wired and it was working before.

Its FIREFOX!

I downloaded the same show via IE7 and POOF! It works!

If the version of FF you were using was one of the FF3 rc's, they are not yet supported and are known to cause very odd issues, indeed.
