Well guys I am glad that the TRS gang finally discovered Top Gear, a show I have been a fan of for a long time. For those with Comcast they do have episodes in On Demand. But on a side not the U.S version of the show has been cast and officially announced. It will be interesting to see if these guys have the chemistry that makes the UK show so great. What do the TRS viewers who watch Top Gear think of it coming to the states?

"Top Gear has just officially announced who will be hosting the U.S. version of the popular car show born in the UK and now officially scheduled to appear on NBC sometime this fall, and the winners are... (drum roll, please): Adam Carolla, Tanner Foust and Eric Stromer."

Here is the link for the info from Autoblog.

I don't know much about the other two, but Carrola might be enough to keep me from watching it.

I'll give this some cautious optimism... Carolla cracks me up, don't know about the other two. It worries me that it's produced by the same guys as mythbusters and especially overhaulin. I enjoy mythbusters, but they have such a formula for those shows and it would be easy to squeeze top gear into that to a save little money.

Adam Carolla used to make me laugh listening to him and Dr. Drew on Loveline growing up. I can imagine him being chosen as a sort of Jeremy Clarkson role to play. I have no clue who the others are. I saw a picture of the show though on Engadget and it looked like your average crappy American car show, just by the setting and lighting and whatever.

I will definitly watch it but what makes me love the UK Top gear are the 3 hosts so i dont know how the American version will turn out. I think the UK trio will be hard to beat :D

Jay Leno would have made a good american equivalent to Jeremy Clarkson.

I view this just like I view any US remake of something that's great; with extreme skepticism. It'll have to wow the world before I watch it.

Jay Leno would have made a good american equivalent to Jeremy Clarkson.
Yes, and from what I know he's actually very much in to cars as well, which would make him perfect.

There's also Tim Allen.

Yep, that guy is fucking annoying.

The guy I'm worried about is Eric Stromer. He's on HGTV right now. Maybe he knows lots about cars but he doesn't come across as a big car guy. Jay Leno would be awesome but he'd have to do it because he wanted to not for the pay because there is no way he'd be paid enough for the show.

I'm looking forward to it though, if only to fill the void while we, in the US, have to wait for the UK, "real" version to be available on BBC America (I dont torrent).

I'm not a huge fan of Corola but I will definitely give the show a shot.

To me the show has so much to do with how it is shot and presented as well as the personalities.

I am by no means a gear head (can't even change the damn windshield wipers) but I really get into Top Gear.

Adam Corolla isn't a bad idea. Jay Leno would be great, but he's too expensive. Tim Allen may be. Right now, we just have to worry about the content that we actually get to learn about cars and the chemistry of the guys. It's not easy to have a good trio for a show. Top Gear is one.

iFanboy trio is good, they bring informative stuff about comic books and still be funny. Their best episode is definitely the supercities episode (http://revision3.com/ifanboy/supercities), where they actually go around NYC to show the fictional Marvel buildings.

And of course the TRS trio. They are the best. =)

I think Adam Carolla was great on Loveline and is great on his own radio show , but he has really not ever been particularly good on television.

Beyond Adam I don't know these guys. I would have liked to see Jay Leno and possibly Tim Allen as well.

Actually, guys, Jay Leno turned it down because of creative differences on the show... He knew that no matter what he did, he couldn't do the real show justice. He wrote all about it in The Times quite a long while ago.

Between Corolla and Foust, I'm expecting a lot of situations that will be like Jezza and Hamster. I think they will make a great duo. The new guy is a bit questionable, but with his background, it seems quite clear that he is supposed to be the James May of the bunch... Kinda boring, the voice of reason I suppose.

I'm willing to give it a shot, as always.

My dream team?

Jay Leno
Tim Allen
Patrick Dempsey

Leno stopped on the side of the highway and helped my friend fix his motorcycle. Apparently he has a 'brothers on bikes' kind of philosophy.

Did anyone watch "The Adam Carolla Project (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adam_Carolla_Project)", Him and a bunch of his boyhood friends attempt to flip a house. I liked him on that show and was entertained.

I have a bad feeling this is going to fail like britney's comeback. What makes Top Gear so great is the chemistry between Jeremy, Hammond, & May have together. Even if the American version is exactly the same format as the original, I highly doubt they can capture the same magic that the UK host have.

I love it how it cuts out when Jeff goes, Alex give him a blowjob.

Anyway I'm a gear head and the reason I love the show is because these guys love cars, know their stuff and it shows. The cars is what keeps me watching. I do; however, love the hosts also. the only thing I hate is when that clarkson guy does this thing when ever he tells a joke. I don't know how to explain it but he breaths in through clenched teeth.

does it not bother anyone how much America bashing there is on that show? I mean i really don't care but i feel like I should care. When ever i hear them bashing on our cars, attitude, and physique, I feel that i should be mad.

I think the thing that would ruin the US version is that they will focus on hot rods, bikes, and muscle cars. basically their car pallet I anticipate would be limited. almost all the best cars come from the eastern part of the world. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. Also their is the almighty temptation to just make another car remake show. A new Pimp my ride. I love car moding but its just ridiculous to put the sistine chapel in a van.
