Today I noticed on the revision3 front page a link to the VOIP advertisement from Microsoft. It is hosted directly on Revision3.

http://revision3.com/content/msvoip/

Now that campaign used to run a few weeks back on shows like Systm and Tekzilla but back then I never gave in to go to that URL and check out their video.

I don't work in IT and I don't work in a place where there is an IT. So when ever Patrick read the advertisement spot I was lost in technical lingo.

Now this video advertisement is pretty long, 15 minutes but I consider it a pretty interesting initiative. You may call it production value, or simply that I was too bored to watch anything else. That little story they told had a love interest, good guys, bad guys and even a song at the end! It's like they followed the little text book on how to make a movie.

So my intention to this post is not to promote further Microsoft products (witch is like a medicine's side effects). I'd like to know how other people feel towards advertisement in Revision3 shows and how implicated we are in that process.

I accept pertinent advertisement but not too targeted (I hate when Amazon keeps shoving things I'd like in my face).

So I wonder do you like very straight forward ads that just announce the product, or more involved and intricate ways to promote a brand.

I don't want any interaction. If I want it I'll buy it. Otherwise just say what you have to say and move on. Ads should be as minimal part of the show as possible. I don't want more interaction because that leads to more focus on the ad and less on the show.

About 3 min in it got really boring so turned it off.

15 min advertisement no thanks.

if this was before I had a PC and cable and 2 in the morning with a infomercial and I could not sleep then maybe.

I prefer ads that are short, straight to the point and don't pretend to be anything else. Ads that are too long or interactive or try to hard to be entertaining/creative make me feel manipulated and resentful and, as a result, I'm far less likely to buy the product.

I think Leo has it right, on twit and macbreak at least, host says it's an ad, he goes through the motions, but then it becomes part of the conversation, and then they move on. I also like the way diggnation does it, short and sweet "brought to you by" from kev and alex, maybe a wise crack that dosn't offend the sponsor, and then back to the show. I NEVER skip over those types of ads.

I thought it was a brilliant ad. Funny, creative, and all around fun to watch. As an advertisement it got all of its points across in an intuitive way. As a short movie it kept me entertained through the entire film.
