Sam Kinison, Kurt Vonnegut, and now George Carlin.

It's the end of an era.

He will be missed, but not forgotten.

I first saw Carlin through Thomas the Tank Engine, which is just how young I am. Even as I grew older he stayed with me through his comedy. Very sad stuff.

Whats really depressing is that it was just announced like five days ago that he would be given an award for American Humor in November. Only, like, ten other people have received the award. He was truly among the greats. Sad, sad, sad.

So it goes.

hey i am not going to be sad. 71 years of happiness is a long time. we are fortunate that we have 30 of recorded acts plus 3 or 4 books.

i'll miss him for sure.

“The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What’s that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you’re too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating …and you finish off as an orgasm.

"The best afterlife for me would be to be able to sit comfortably and watch the world on a kind of heavenly CNN, to be able to have my remote and say, 'Okay, there's an uprising in Spain. Let's watch that. Or to watch China finally take over the fucking world. Because there's a billion of those motherfuckers and they're going to eat our lunch. I would love to get the thousand-year view on the decline of the European birthrate or the "Muslimization" of Europe that's talking place; the explosion of Latin American culture in the western part of the United States.' Just sit back and watch. India and Pakistan, both, have nuclear weapons and they fuckin' hate each other. I'm telling you, somebody is going to fuck somebody's sister and an atom bomb is going to fly. And I say fine. You know? I just like the show. This world is a big theater in the round, as far as I'm concerned, and I'd just love watching it spin itself into oblivion. Tune in and watch the human adventure. It's a cursed, doomed species but it's just interesting as hell. That's what I want heaven to be. And if it's not like that, then fuck it. I'll just kill myself." - George Carlin

Carlin played my school a few years ago. after his set one of my students went back stage and asked for his autograph. Carlin spent 45 minutes talking to the kid, and a couple of weeks later his ENTIRE discography showed up at the kid's door. We won't see his kind again.

Who stole from whom? When did Carlin write this? If anyone remembers "Mork & Miindy", ABC, late '70's-early 80's, sounds just like Jonathan Winters' character. Winters played Mork and Mindy's child. Same idea, be born as a senior and then grow to be a infant.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure that the late great Winters, and the recently passed Carlin were friends. No knowing, but guessing they worked on it together. See if Carlin is in the writing/story credits? Doubt it, but but they played with ideas over the phone. And Just guessing, that Mork and Mindy never got him all the way back to Orgasm... Maybe today they could get away with it, but not back then. :)

And thanks for the reminder about Jonathan Winters, what a wonderful, gentle soul. Never worked blue, but still funny as hell, like Harvey Korman, and Carol Burnette, and Tim Conway, hints of adult innuendo. But never anything overt. Got any classic Winters stuff to post from Youtube. been ages. I can't think of anything. Oh, and Flip Wilson. One of my dads faves, and I loved him too.

Umm, Winters' web site says he is still alive. (as does several other sites.) He is listed as being 82.
