Casino Royale's a good one to own. The action scenes look amazing, especially the beginning chase.

Do you buy your movies brand new or used? I've been getting most of mine off of eBay. I just can't force myself to pay $24+ for a movie. I'll admit though I pre-ordered Iron Man.

Planet Earth
CARS
Blade Runner 5-Disc Collectors Edition
Looking forward to Iron Man and Transformers.

Blade Runner 5 disc collection is a must have, though I have it on HD DVD rather than Blu-Ray.
Lost season 3 is my favorite Blu-Ray release yet.

The best Blu-ray movie I've seen so far was Uncharted, although I haven't finished watching Metal Gear Solid 4 yet.
Oh you mean like real movies.. I dunno, but definitely not Spiderman 3. That movie sucked. And I have five other Blu-rays that I haven't watched yet (though I did test a couple). Unless you haven't seen it, or are a massive fan, I'd say, stay away from Full Metal Jacket. It's super grainy, and not massively clearer than an upscaled DVD version. IMHO, that is. Those are just my warnings..
The picture quality of The Prestige was great, though I didn't watch the whole movie, just skipped through a bit to see the how good the transfer was.

Did you get the most recent FMJ? I remember hearing a lot of bad stuff about the first release of FMJ on Blu-Ray, but I guess they released it again to be more "worthy" of the BR name.

Across The Universe
Casino Royale
Cars
Ratatouille
(much like they do on digital projectors computer animated films really show off the format...now if they'd just hurry up with the rest of the Pixar releases)

I wanna know...can we really see much enhancement of those Blu-ray classic/old movies? If not, what's the point of selling them in the new format besides making more money.

There is a visual difference if you have a good TV setup and/or if the studio did a good transfer. Also if you have a good speaker setup and the studio did a decent job with the audio track that maybe worth getting Blu-Ray over the DVD. Blu-Ray is definitely for the people who want the best out of their expensive entertainment system.

If you have a big LCD/Plasma TV you will definitely notice the difference. The extra resolution makes a huge difference to picture quality in terms of sharpness and pixelization. I also notice a big jump in sound quality but that will depend on your setup as well. I must admit that I didn't think sound could get much better than Dolby Digital 5.1 but the HD formats like TRUE-HD etc. do actually sound better on a good system.
I liken it to the effect of a console generation upgrade. One of mates used to go on about how 360 and PS3 graphics weren't much better than PS2. That was until he got a big tv (I still argued even before then that he had something in his eyes) and found out just how bad PS2 games scale on a big TV. You may not notice the step up so much as you will notice the drop back. Once your used to seeing better quality, the difference becomes obvious.
As a bit of a cinephile, I like to own the best quality versions of the film I can get. It's as close as I'll get in this generation to actually owning the print on film.
I usually try to focus on films that are among my favorites. I love to see films that I was too young to see at the cinema or were released before my time in HD.

That's a good question. I don't know, and didn't have a choice. The only Blu-rays I have were free, from that "buy a PS3, get 5 free Blu-rays" promo. So they probably sent out the crappy FMJs as freebies.
EDIT: Not saying the movie sucks, as it's one of my favorites. Just saying, it is pretty grainy. But not too bad for an old movie, I guess. Just, I was thinking "miracles do happen."

I'd say:
Blade Runner
Planet Earth
Ratatouille
I have others but those 3 really stand out. Also, honorable mention:
2001: A Space Odyssey
I haven't watched the entire thing but from what I did see it looked pretty damn good for being a 60's movie.

The free version for the promotion was the original Blu-Ray release with the white cover. That version is widely regarded as one of the absolute worst transfers available in HD.
They put out another version late last fall with a much better transfer, and with a commentary track and featurette.
Many older movies might look a little soft on HD, but none of them should look remotely as bad as that one did.

As a pure demonstration of HD, I'd say you should check out Crank. Shot entirely with HD cameras, it has a very unique look--it's really visually amazing on Blu-Ray.

I know a lot of people are using large 42" + HD LCD/Plasmas, but does anyone know how blue-ray movies look on say an HD 1080p projector? My brother-in-law just finished his basement and purchased a 1080p projector .. I think its a samsung model, but I dont remember. Last time I was over he had just finished mouting the ceiling bracket.
Both of us work in IT and we used to "borrow" the IT projector to watch the superbowl and stanely cup play off games on weekends. We were able to get the screen size to 108" and it looked pretty good with a satelite signal.
Just curious.
