So We've had a series of threads on the PS3 so far. This is *not* a PS3, or Sony sucks thread so please start your own thread if you want to bitch about anything Sony.
So I'll start off with the first question from anyone that may know:
Today Sony announced an OS update for the PSP. They're moving to version 3.0 so of course the firmware takes another stab at stopping Hombrew or OS rollbacks. One of the things that interested me was that the PSP can act as a media extender from the PS3. Soooo... my question is to anyone that may of bought PS3, does this mean that I can play a Blue Ray movie, and stream it to my PSP, or is it simply for specific downloaded content? Anyone???
I do not know the answer to your question.
I'd be very impressed, though, if the PS3 could play BluRay and stream it to the PSP. (Although, I don't know why I would want that functionality... I do think it would be very cool.) Does the PSP have 802.11b or g?

802.11b.
I had a question, since 802.11b can push out 11 Mbps, does it look crappy as opposed to steaming it on Cat6, or is there no crappy-ness that is noticeable????????

All i know, is that the PSP can be usable with the PS3. In certian racing games the PSP can be used as a rear view mirror. and can be used as a controller for other games. I am not sure if it is worth me going and buying a PSP. I might.

Ok, an update on what I know so far.
first read this, it's where I got the info on this: http://www.gamespot.com/news/6162183.html
Then have a look at the current method that Sony has been pushing streaming video out to the PSP with fairly high quality through the "location Free" box.
Info can be found here:
http://www.learningcenter.sony.us/HomeAudioandVideo/LocationFree
In a nut shell it hooks up to your TV and dvd player. It then streams the signals across your internet connection. The box has it's own IP and is set up through port forwarding through your router. The non sony version is called a Sling Box. It does the same thing, but is not device specific (both can work on PCs, but Sony only works on the PSP for handheld while the Sling box works on a variety of handheld devices that can stream video while pulling info from the internet).
The piece of info that you don't know is that I currenlty watch my friends sling box on my laptop. This means I can watch all his movie channels without actually having to pay for them. I simply log in and away I go. The cool part is that it's streaming it at around 300K/second. and that's simply because that's what my connection will allow. It can throttle it up or down depending on the requirements I get a pretty good pic on my laptop and I would think that a PSP would get a great image. Sooo.... given that the PSP is wireless b I would think that an 11meg connection would be far more than enough to handle full video. The question is does the PS3 work as a Location Free box, or is it a different beast entirely.
Anyone with any further info would be greatly welcome... and would be winning the "Geekdrome Toaster" for a week. :D

I don't have a link but I read a few months back that you can stream video to the PSP, even over the internet. So if you're out of town and want to watch something from home you can just connect to your PS3 at home.

I haven't heard anything else about the "Remote Play" function so I'm guessing it's not yet active.

As I browsed through the new menus of my PSP after applying the 3.01 update, I found the following under the Network>Remote Play menu :
This feature allows operation of the PLAYSATION®3 system over a wireless network using a PSP™ system.
You must create a network connection on this system to match the [Remote Play Connection Settings] of the PS3™ system.
I also found a new menu that allows me to connect a compatible camera to the PSP, but that's possibly been there the whole time.

the the camera bit is new as far as I know.
I wish I knew what the wireless connection did for you. T.C. is giving me what I want to hear, but things have been changed so much on both the PSP and the PS3 that I'm not sure what it does.
Thanks Diela

PSP Camera expected to be about $42 dollars
PSP GPS unit expected to be about $50
Those are pretty much steals. It does bring to question whether or not they actually work well. But even if you're not satisfied, it was just 50 bucks, no hard loss.

OK, I actually went to a Sony location and asked them directly. The PS3 has all the functionality of the Location Free! AWESOME. This means that you'll be able to stream television over the internet to your PSP. Watch TV on your PSP anywhere there is a highspeed connection/hotspot. I'm not sure if this allows you to watch your DVRed material, it may. What it can do is stream your blue ray movies over to your PSP! AWESOME. Some may not be interested in watching media on your PSP, but I for one really enjoy this feature. It's not clear as to wether you'll be able to stream music, but I'll bet I could figure some way of doing it if it can do everything else. This is huge news for me... I say they've got a sale... I might even be able to stream Geekdrome to my PSP!!!
