I'm going to do a totally geek tree at my office. If I can find some dot-matrix paper, the edges would be perfect garland. Other ideas for what to add?

You might be able to work in some LED throwies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LED_throwie) too.

Throw on some AOL CDs?

Damn, I knew that those could be used for something useful someday. Too bad that I used them whenever I got them. Frisbee, shooting target(with a bb gun), microwaved, etc. I miss aol :(

Throw on some AOL CDs?THat was my first thought too - NOTHING says Christmas like a tree adorned with AOL CDs. Even better though is turning them into AOL Xmas Bells ...

Where can I get the LED throwies? Those are awesome. And yeah, AOL disks. I wonder how to make them bell-shaped?

I'm going to look for a picture of my christmas tree from last year... I'm just going to add on to what I did last year. All my ornaments are pink (fuschia pink) silver or white (with a few really pretty gold ornaments that I"ve had forever) with pink and white twinkle lights and I have one of those big light up snowflakes over the top instead of a star or angel topper... its my pretty Martha Stewart tree :)

I wonder how to make them bell-shaped?You need something fireproof to use as a mold, but apart from that, all you need to do is heat them up in an oven set to 225-250 degrees. Allow the CD to melt over the shape you have chosen.

There is something about the plastic breakign down into noxious fumes at over 275 ... so make sure you are careful, and only do this in a well ventilated space.

== no responsibility taken for people that try this at home and kill themselves from the toxic fumes ==

we had bought the halo miniature toys about 2.5 inches tall. A little thread around their neck and it was the perfect geek ornament and gift for all my friends.

Where can I get the LED throwies? Those are awesome. You make them. Head to radio shack and pick up a pack of assorted LEDs and a bunch of 3v watch or hearing aid batteries. Tape the LEDs to the battery and you're done.

We duct tape them to our frisbees for late-night disc golf.

Do AOL still give out those crappy CDs? I'm so out of touch with that.

I think one essential ornament has to be a silicon wafer circuit star, decked out with hand soldered OLEDs.
